Park Street Rape Victim denied entry into Kolkata restaurant for being a 'rape victim', files FIR

Kolkata, Sep 15 (ANI): In a shameful act by a restaurant authority in Kolkata, Park street rape victim was denied from entering the place for being a victim of the heinous crime. The victim went to the restaurant Saturday night with her fiancé where she was 'insulted' and denied entry in front of people present there. She later filed an FIR following which the police assured her of necessary actions and adequate security if required. The 40-year-old woman was allegedly denied entry by the management of Ginger, a restaurant-cum-bar in south Kolkata's Kalighat area. Suzette Jordan, who was gang-raped in a moving car in 2012, has categorically chosen that her name be revealed and she be not named as a 'rape victim'.

Observers eye on Chinese President's Visit to India

New Delhi, Sep 15 (ANI): Looking forward to Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India, observers on Monday opined that both nations will benefit from mutual economic cooperation, rather than indulging in border adventures. Jinping is scheduled to visit India between September 17 and 19.New Delhi's ties with Beijing have long been held back by distrust, mostly over their contested border. But many say that both countries would realise the importance of their relationship with each other, judging that both are two of the fastest growing economies in the world. Incursions by the Chinese troops into India have always left India reeling. Ahead of Jinping's visit, this issue has been on the back of most people's minds. Defence analyst, Alok Bansal, however, feels that such issues are hyped up ahead of important visits like these. Chinese investment will also help narrow a trade deficit with India that hit $31 billion in 2013.

RBI chief says inflation coming down

Mumbai, Sept 15 (ANI): RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, said on Monday that India's macroeconomic indicators are improving but Asia's third-largest economy needs to eliminate diesel subsidy completely. Rajan said data suggested that it was a matter of time that we can declare ourselves totally out of inflation. Rajan was speaking at a gathering of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Indian Banks' Association (IBA) at the thirteenth edition of FIBAC. With crude oil prices falling globally, Rajan pitched in for eliminating diesel subsidies completely. Talking about the deluge in India's Kashmir, Rajan said that the central bank will work with other banks to restore normalcy in the region.

CP Thakur defends Nitish in Bihar drug scam even as state health minister accuses previous office ho

Patna, Sep 15 (ANI): BJP leader CP Thakur has defended former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the drug scam, saying that it was wrong to point fingers at the integrity and honesty of the JD (U) leader. Reacting on the ongoing 'letter war' between Nitish Kumar and former deputy CM of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi over the scam, the senior BJP leader said that a neutral body should hold enquiry into the matter. India's 'Mars Mission' to enter into Mars orbit on Sept 24: ISRO

Banglore, Sep 15 (ANI): ISRO Scientific Secretary, V Koteswara Rao said on Monday that India's 'Mars Mission' will enter into the sphere of influence of planet Mars on September 24. SC asks Prashant Bhushan to reveal name of whistle-blower in Ranjit Sinha case in sealed envelope

New Delhi, Sep 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday directed lawyer Prashant Bhushan to disclose the source of his information in the 2G scam case about CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha. The court asked Bhushan to submit the name and address of the whistle-blower in a sealed envelope. The CBI chief, defending himself, has said that 90 per cent of entries in the register are forged while some entries may be genuine. However, Bhushan said that this infringes on the privacy of the whistle-blower and therefore needs permission from the same. The court thus gave a week's time to Bhushan and the next hearing is to take place next Monday.

Converted water schemes into solar, Inland waterways need to be developed: Gadkari

New Delhi, Sep 15 (ANI): Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday addressed a news conference and highlighted the government's efforts towards cleanliness and provision of safe drinking water. Gadkari said that the government has worked towards transforming the water purification schemes converting them into solar. He added that monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been set up in the drinking water sector to increase efficiency in work. He also said that developing of inland waterways and ports is government's priority and it can contribute to at least 2% to GDP growth of the country.

BJP proposes to place CBI under RTI, Politicos react

New Delhi, Sep 15 (ANI): Politicos react on Monday after BJP proposed that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should be placed under Right to Information Act (RTI). BJP leader Sambit Patra said that BJP wants a corruption free and transparent CBI. Supporting Patra, party leader Subramanian Swamy said that even he believes that CBI should come under RTI although an additional condition can be placed allowing CBI to choose the ongoing cases which shouldn’t be placed under RTI. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said that although CBI should be transparent, but revealing details of important cases could be dangerous. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that all the parties should be invited and a consensus should be built about placing CBI under RTI.
