Congress, BJP, AAP target each other ahead of Delhi elections

New Delhi, Nov 5 (ANI): Congress, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party kept on targeting each other ahead of the assembly elections in Delhi. BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao slammed AAP for running away from elections and said that BJP will campaign for the elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress leaders JP Agarwal and Haroon Yusuf said that AAP doesnot have any ideology and the party only misleads the people of Delhi through false promises. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia alleged that both the Congress and BJP are politically hand-in-glove.

Protest in Chennai against Sri Lanka's death penalty to Indian fishermen

Chennai, Nov 05 (ANI): Protesters, on Wednesday (November 05), took to streets in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu against death penalty given to Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held the five fishermen guilty of drug trafficking. The arrest of the Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy has been a major topic of debate between the two nations. Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, earlier, wrote several letters to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and present Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking to pressurise Sri Lankan authorities to free fishermen detained in the country.

Politicos react after Sheila Dikshit says won't contest polls in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 5 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Wednesday after former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that she won't be contesting the assembly elections to be held in Delhi. BJP leader Prabhat Jha said that it is for the Congress to decide who will contest the elections. Congress leader JP Agarwal also said that the decision on the candidates contesting the elections will be taken by the high command of Congress. AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that Congress will have to face disappointing results in the upcoming elections and Sheila Dikshit's participation in the elections won't prove of any help to the party.

Call for shutdown in Kashmir to protest killing of two youths by Army

Srinagar, Nov 5 (ANI): A separatist leader and chairman of the moderate faction of All Parties Hurriyat (Freedom) Conference (APHC) in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, called for a complete shutdown on Wednesday (November 05). The strike call comes in the wake of the killing of two youths by the Army in Budgam district on Monday evening, soon after which there was a complete shutdown in the region to protest the incident. Security personnel have been deployed in Srinagar to prevent any untoward incident. As per local media reports, two youths were killed in Army firing after they did not stop at check points in Budgam district. The Army had received information on the movement of militants in Budgam after which they set up three check points. The youths did not stop at any point, which led security personnel to fire at them. The ruling party in the state, National Conference (NC), condemned the incident and demanded probe into the matter. Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley, has also condemned the incident and said an enquiry would be set up to investigate the matter.

Salman Khan hit-and-run case: Hearing adjourned till Nov 24

Mumbai, Nov 5 (ANI): Court hearing in the Salman Khan's hit-and-run case was adjourned till November 24 on Wednesday. Lawyer Pradeep Gharad said that the court examined the two witnesses were examined in the court who were involved in the import and possession of the Land Cruiser car. On September 28, 2002, the actor's car had run over people sleeping on the pavement in Bandra, killing one and injuring four. A witness in the case had allegedly told a Mumbai trial court last month that he had seen the actor in the driver's seat of his vehicle in a hotel's parking lot on the night incident took place.

Former PM Manmohan Singh receives Japan's top national award

Tokyo, Nov 05 (ANI): Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday was awarded "Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers", one of Japan's highest awards from Japanese Emperor Akihito, as part of a bi-annual decoration ceremony. He received the highest possible award in the Orders of the Rising Sun for his significant contribution to the enhancement of relations and promotion of friendship between Japan and India for about 35 years. It was first awarded in 1888 and is only topped by the Supreme Orders of the Chrysanthemum. More than 4,000 people received an award during this session for their contributions to cultural development or the public good.
