Tripura, Nov 06 (ANI): Tribal womenfolk encourage youngsters to save indigenous art and spread the rich culture of handmade textiles of Tripura. Realising the looming threat of their art falling into oblivion, a tribal woman, Smriti Rekha Chakma, established a small training centre to save the dying art. Chakma said that the whole idea was to inspire the new generation to learn about the rich culture of the state. Meanwhile, another tribal woman, Pramita Chakma, said that unfortunately the Chakma society has adapted to western attire which is comparatively cheaper than the indigenous one. Each tribal community in Tripura owns a handloom and designs colourful material. Chakma tribal women cover their lower body with a length of cloth wrapped around the waist the ends of which are unstitched, while the upper garment is also stitched out of handloom woven cloth.
