An inquiry into historic child abuse on the island of Jersey found a catalogue of failures in its care system spanning several decades, according to findings published in a report on Monday (July 3).The inquiry, led by Frances Oldham QC, heard 553 offences took place between 1947 and 2004. More than half of them are said to have happened at the former childrens care home, Haut de la Garenne. The report has recommended demolishing the building to eradicate its unhappy past. Jul 4, 2017

Brazilian drug lord who used plastic surgery to change looks arrested after 30 years on the run

A Brazilian drug lord has been arrested after three decades on the run. Luiz Carlos da Rocha  was one of South Americas biggest cocaine kingpins. He is said to have amassed a personal fortune of $100m (£77m). 150 police agents carried out 24 raids and seized $10m worth of the drug lords assets, including planes, properties and luxury cars.
