On Friday (4 November) 24-year-old Osama Hussain was jailed for nine years for a “callous” attack, which left his victim with stab wounds to his arm and back, narrowly missing his spine. Tens of thousands of Muslim protesters in Indonesia marched to demand the resignation of the governor of Jakarta. They claim Basuki Tjahja Purnama insulted the Quran and want him jailed for blasphemy. Police are investigating the case against Purnama who has apologised for the remarks. Nov 4, 2016

Hundreds of mannequin limbs block entrance to Russian embassy in protest of Aleppo air strikes

On 3 November activists from The Syria Campaign and Syria Solidarity UK blocked the entrance to the Russian Embassy in London to protest the bombing over Aleppo. Two activists chained themselves to the embassys gates, while a few dozen others have laid out 800 white mannequins limbs to represent the victims of the Russian and Syrian air strikes over the city. According to rights group Syrian Network for Human Rights, in October 2016 alone 1106 civilians were killed with 791 reportedly at the hands of the Assad regime and Russian forces. Nov 4, 2016

Reptile keeper baits 4.5m hungry crocodile before proposing to girlfriend

A reptile handler has proposed to his girlfriend inside an enclosure at the Australian Reptile Park just metres from Elvis, the hungry 4.5m crocodile in residence. According to the Mail Online, Elvis was dubbed the crankiest crocodile in Australia and this year celebrated his 50th birthday by eating half a cow. Before arriving at the park he apparently had a brief stay at a breeding farm where he ate several stablemates. The brave keeper, Billy Collett, an employee at the Australian Reptile Park, got down on one knee in front of an audience of park visitors and a crocodile he had tempted with a hunk of red meat just moments before. Collett is Head of Reptiles at the park and his fiancee, Siobhan Oxley, had willingly agreed to help feed the crocodile earlier that week, but with little idea of what was in store.
