India and Pakistan hold flag meet over ceasefire violations

Poonch / New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): India and Pakistan conducted a brigadier-level flag meeting near the border in Jammu and Kashmir, following a large number of ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) last year. The meet continued for an hour-and-a-half at Chakan-Da-Bagh on LoC, a military line that divides Kashmir between the nuclear-armed neighbours, in Poonch district of the region. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, met Union Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde, to reduce the tension along the border. Jan 18, 2014

India eyes extremist groups as threat to Afghanistan's 2014 polls

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): India said that extremist groups trying to deter domestic stability and internal security of Afghanistan are a key threat to the war-torn country's 2014 presidential polls scheduled for April, as the US plans a total pull-out of combat forces by this year end in absence of bilateral security agreement. India's foreign secretary, Sujatha Singh, expressed such views at the meeting of special officers from neighbouring countries of Afghanistan and other international agencies to discuss on 'Istanbul process' in New Delhi. Appreciating the efforts of Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, towards conducting the polls, Singh said the extremist groups could pose a threat to the elections. 18 killed in a stampede in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 18 (ANI): At least 18 people were killed and several wounded in a stampede that broke out on Saturday near the residence of Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. According to reports, the stampede took place near the Malabar Hill residence of Dr. Burhanuddin, who died on Friday, as people had gathered to pay homage to the spiritual leader. The bodies of those died in the stampede were taken to Saifee Hospital. Injured people have been taken for treatment. Jan 18, 2014

Shashi Tharoor admitted to AIIMS

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Shashi Tharoor was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences after he complained of uneasiness and chest pain, hours after his wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a hotel room on Friday. Tharoor was initially admitted to the ICU as a precautionary measure. He has now been moved out of the ICU and is in a normal ward. Tharoor's wife Pushkar was found dead in a Delhi hotel, a day after her Twitter spat with a Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, over an alleged affair with the minister. Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar found dead in New Delhi's Leela Hotel

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Shashi Tharoor was found dead in a hotel room in New Delhi on Friday. Shashi Tharoor's personal secretary, Abhinab Kumar, said that Sunanda's body was found in Leela Hotel and the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.
