Pakistan keen on strong bilateral ties and more trade via Wagah border

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): In a bid to normalise bilateral trade ties, Pakistan Trade Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan visited India and in a meeting with the Confederation of Indian Industries in New Delhi, expressed his keenness to boost commerce between the two nations. Khan is in India to normalise bilateral trade ties on the sidelines of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation business leaders conclave. Khan, who is leading a delegation of 70 businessmen, said that efforts to enhance two-way trade through the northern 'Wagah' border between the two countries were underway. Jan 17, 2014

India and Sri Lanka release detained fishermen

Chennai, Jan 17 (ANI): Addressing mediapersons in Chennai, Inspector General of the Indian Coast Guard SP Sharma said that jailed fishermen were exchanged with Sri Lanka. However, he said that one Indian fisherman was unwell to go on onboard and therefore a total of 51 Indian fishermen returned back. He stated this on the sidelines of three-day Coast Guard Sailing Cup 2014 that started on Wednesday. The Indian navy handed over 52 fishermen to Sri Lanka, while 51 Indians went the other way. One Indian remains in hospital in Sri Lanka and 236 others are still detained there. Some 152 Sri Lankan fishermen remain in India. Jan 17, 2014

Danish woman gang-rape case: Two accused sent to police custody

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): A Delhi court sent two suspects to police custody till Jan 20, who were accused in the gang rape and robbery of a 51-year-old Danish tourist in the national capital. The tourist was robbed of her cash, iPad and telephone. She refused a medical examination and has since left India to return to Denmark, police said. Acting on a tip off, police nabbed two suspects and recovered some belongings from them. The lawyer representing the suspects in court, Mohammad Azam, said that they would remain in police custody for three days. The other suspects in the case are still at large. Jan 17, 2014
