Preparations speed up for SAARC meet in Nepal

Kathmandu, Nov 24 (ANI): The preparations for the 18th SAARC summit are in full swing in Nepal as the authorities have heightened the security for the two-day event where leaders from eight nations will meet and discuss the core issues of importance. Leaders from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Pakistan would meet in Kathmandu for two days for the plenary session from November 26 for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). As last stage preparations are being carried out, even artisans are busy giving final touches to earthen pots that will adorn the venue to welcome leaders at the meet. Nov 24, 2014

Director General of UNESCO meets Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, Nov 24 (ANI): The Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Monday. After the meeting the Foreign Ministry spokesperson tweeted "Women to the fore in diplomacy. Minister @SushmaSwaraj and Irina Bokova DG of @UNESCO discuss 'exclusion and empowerment'". It was recently announced at a meeting of the UN Chief Executives Board (CEB) held in Washington on 20-21st November that the Director General of UNESCO will also be taking over the chairmanship of the High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM) for 2015-2016. Kerala Chief Oommen Chandy hopes Tamil Nadu understands concerns over disputed Mullaperiyar Dam

Chennai, Nov 24 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy hopes that the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu would understand the concerns over stability of the disputed Mullaperiyar Dam that is shared by both the states. His statement comes after the water level in the dam reportedly touched 142 feet. Chandy said Kerala is concerned about the safety of those residing in the vicinity of the dam and said Tamil Nadu should understand their worries. He added he was aware of the importance of the water for both the states and that sharing was not an issue at all. The Mullaperiyar Dam site is in Kerala, but the reservoir mainly serves Tamil Nadu. Speculations over Modi-Sharif meet during SAARC summit gains momentum; Politicos react

New Delhi, Nov 24 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Monday after speculations over bilateral meet between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the SAARC summit gained momentum. BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao said that Pakistan doesn't appear to be quite interested in having any bilateral meets. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that SAARC is a multi-lateral meeting and the government doesn't seem to make any preparations for any bilateral meet.
