Formation of Telangana triggers protest; four cabinet ministers quit

Vishakhapatnam/Hyderabad/ New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): The formation of the new state of Telangana from the unified state of Andhra Pradesh has prompted four Union Cabinet Ministers to resign and triggered protests by certain groups. Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi has resigned from his post in protest against the Union Cabinet's approval of the formation of a separate Telangana state. Three other Union Ministers MM Pallam Raju, KS Rao and Surya Prakash Reddy have also offered to resign. Meanwhile, TDP leader, Chandrababu Naidu, said that people were unhappy with the decision and were protesting but the government has taken a unanimous decision without paying heed to the issues of the people. Residents face brunt of cross-border shelling in Kashmir

Chowkibal, Oct 04 (ANI): Locals in Kashmir on Friday said that they were facing the brunt of cross-border shelling as military fought the biggest group of infiltrators in Kashmir trying to cross from Pakistan in years. Some 30 to 40 heavily armed fighters have crossed the Line of Control dividing Kashmir between the rival nations in the Keran sector and are holed up for the past nine days in thick forests in the area. A resident, Abdul Rashid Mir, expressed his ire over the ongoing gun battle which has added to their woes. Rahul stands by his sentiments on Ordinance, admits words chosen were wrong

New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi admitted that the words he used to describe the government's Ordinance on convicted lawmakers were probably inappropriate, but emphasized that his sentiments were right. He told the mediapersons that his mother and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi had told him that the words he used were strong and therefore he regretted his words but stood by his sentiments. Rahul said this while on his two-day visit to Gujarat which started on Thursday. Suspect killed after car chase, shots fired at U.S. Capitol

Washington DC, Oct 04 (ANI): A female suspect who triggered lengthy car chase by the police from the White House to Capitol Hill on Thursday afternoon was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead, local police chief confirmed. Police said the black car that the suspect was driving struck a White House security barrier at first and then triggered the car chase and gunshots. The female suspect was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead, said DC Metropolitan Chief Cathy Lanier. Pak ensures swift completion of integrated check posts along India's borders

Amritsar, Oct 04 (ANI): In a bid to boost trade relations between Pakistan and India, custom officials from the neighbouring country assured that the Integrated Check Post (ICP) on their side will be completed within six months. A five-member Pakistan Customs delegation met their Indian counterpart and discussed various issues, with the emphasis of easing trade between both nations. Customs collector from Pakistan, Junaid Akram who visited India’s Amritsar city, near the Wagah border said that Pakistan is developing the ICPs at a very good speed. Cabinet gives nod to Jet Airways-Etihad deal

New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Paving the way for the biggest foreign investment in India's aviation sector, the union cabinet of India has approved a $330 million deal by Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways to buy a stake in Jet Airways, taking the companies one step closer to complete the long-delayed deal. India’s Aviation Minister Ajit Singh confirmed this in New Delhi and said that the deal would benefit passengers at large. Etihad had agreed in April to buy a 24 percent stake in Jet in the first such deal since the government relaxed rules in September 2012 to allow foreign airlines to own up to 49 percent of Indian carriers. Bangalore, Oct 04 (ANI): The Karnataka High Court at Bangalore issued notice to 22 legislators (provincial lawmaker) and also ministers for violating norms at formal oath taking and swearing-in ceremonies. A petition filed in High Court observed that according to the Constitution of India, the oath for any constitutional post can be taken either in the name of God or if you don't believe in God you can take oath on your self conscience but these 22 MLAs including two ministers of ruling provincial government had sworn in the name of their voters and party leaders. 'The French Loaf' creates a visual treat with 100 metres long cake

Chennai, Oct 04 (ANI): The French Loaf, a bakery wing of Oriental Cuisines Private Limited (OCPL) provided a visual treat to the Bakers and cake lovers in Chennai by displaying a 100 long metres cake which weighed 1000 kilograms. The images on the cake were based on the theme ‘Namma Chennai, Namma Pride’ (Our Chennai our Pride). A group of 26 chefs took exactly 285 hours to make the cake and in total, there were 100 people involved in the baking and assembling of the masterpiece.
