First modern sports stadium under construction in Jorhat

Jorhat, March 29 (ANI): One of the oldest sports fields of Assam, which is run by Jorhat District Sport Association, will be soon transformed into an international standard stadium. The sports complex is being constructed at a cost of over 6 crore. While the gallery is being sponsored by the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resource (NLCPR) under the DoNER Ministry, the United Fund of Jorhat District Administration is funding the construction of the grounds and other facilities. The stadium will have a sitting capacity of 25,000 people. The project began in 2008-2009 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The work is progressing rapidly, and 90 per cent of the stadium has been completed.

AAP chief attacked during poll campaign, calls it political conspiracy

Jind, March 29 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal has urged his supporters not to retaliate after an unidentified man on Friday attacked him during his poll campaign, as he called it a political conspiracy. The attacker climbed on to the open vehicle in which Kejriwal was travelling during the road show in Bhiwani district of Haryana and tried to hit him near his neck. Later, Kejriwal's supporters turned violent and the attacker was beaten up by them. While addressing his supporters in Jind district during a road show, Kejriwal blamed the political parties for hatching a conspiracy against him. According to media reports, the attacker was a supporter of Anna Hazare.

Bangladesh barrister pins hope on trial of Jamaat members accused of war crimes

Dhaka, March 29 (ANI): Bangladesh barrister Tureen Afroz pinned hope on the trial of the members of the country's Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, as the war crimes investigation agency handed over its report on the party to the prosecution. The investigation agency has called for the banning of Jamaat-e-Islami and six other organisations including the then student wing of Jamaat, Islami Chhatra Sangha, the Peace Committee, Razakar Bahini, Al-Badr Bahini, Al-Shams Bahini and Jamaat's mouthpiece daily Sangram. Afroz, who is leading the prosecution in the case, said it was a unique case as the International Crimes Tribunal will try the party for the first time.

A museum in Manipur showcases relics of Second World-War

Imphal, March 29 (ANI): The museum was set up by the Second World War Imphal campaign foundation with support from Manipur tourism department. Manipur, often considered to be one of the most significant theatres of World War II, witnessed many battles during that time. The recovered World War II artifacts include barrels of rare Arisaka guns and bullets, a radio compass of a Dakota aircraft, artillery shells, Allied khaki shirts, war manuals, type 97 Japanese grenade, type 91 Japanese grenade and oxygen cylinders used by aircraft pilots.

Baghpat, March 29 (ANI): While addressing a rally in Baghpat, BJP's PM Candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at Congress and said that Congress has turned Lal Bahadur Shastri's 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' into 'Marr Jawan, Marr Kisan'. He further said that the slogan of Revolt of 1857 was 'kamal or roti' (lotus and bread), but in 2014, it changed into 'kamal or Modi' (lotus and Modi). Modi further lashed out at Chaudhary Charan Singh's son for leaving his father and his principles of working against Congress; anti farmer policies and going to Congress.

Rajnath Singh demands upgraded security for Modi post suicide bomber threat

Lucknow, Mar 27 (ANI): BJP President Rajnath Singh expressed concern over possible attack on BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, after Intelligence Bureau issued alert of suicide bomber threat. Reportedly, as per the high alert, the attack may be on the lines of assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The IB reports also stated that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, won’t be shot at, but it is likely that a suicide bomber disguised as a supporter may target him. The agencies also suspect that the attack may take place in Modi’s own constituencies of Varanasi or Vadodara.

Maoists trigger landmine blast in Odisha, injure two personnel

Malkangiri, Mar 29 (ANI): Two personnel of India's paramilitary, Border Security Force (BSF), were injured when Maoists triggered a landmine blast in Malkangiri district of Odisha province on Friday. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pramod Kumar Bagh, said the explosive went off when the BSF personnel were conducting a search after removing Maoist posters in the mountainous area. The injured were airlifted to Malkangiri district hospital. The BSF has launched a combing operation to nab the ultras.

Congress' Imran Masood arrested for threatening Narendra Modi

Saharanpur, Mar 29 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday arrested the leader and candidate of ruling Congress party, Imran Masood, who openly threatened to hack BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi to pieces. A criminal case was registered against him on March 28 after a video of him threatening Modi went viral on the web. An FIR accused Masood, of violating the election code of conduct. Earlier, BJP spokesperson, Meenakshi Lekhi had vouched that the party will see to it that Masood's candidature is cancelled.
