Secretariat of Jammu and Kashmir moves to winter capital

Jammu, Nov 10 (ANI): With growing chill in the air, the secretariat of Jammu and Kashmir moved to its winter capital, Jammu, on Monday (November10) with the ceremonial guard of honour for the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to mark the occasion. The bi-annual practice of shifting the 'Darbar' (Secretariat) between the two capital cities of the state dates back to the 19th century. The government operates from Srinagar during summers and from Jammu in winters. It is estimated that the whole exercise of relocating offices costs the government crores of rupees every year. Srinagar, experiences severe snow covered winters and a pleasant weather in summers, while Jammu city records high temperatures during summer, but is relatively warm in winters.

MS Dhir alleges lack of internal democracy in AAP, Kejriwal says not getting ticket results in such

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): AAP leader MS Dhir on Monday alleged that there is lack of internal democracy in Aam Aadmi Party and refuted news report that he was denied ticket by the party. He said that he never applied of the same and so there is no question of ticket rejection. Dhir went on the appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the country has not seen such a PM in recent years and that Modi is taking the nation in right direction. Reacting on the same, party chief Arvind Kejriwal said that anyone denied ticket would obviously talk of lack of democracy in the party. Further, he said that these are just media reports and that ticket distribution has not taken place in the party till now.

Harsh Vardhan takes charge as Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Minister

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): Harsh Vardhan who was relieved of the Health Ministry and was allotted Science and Technology and Earth Sciences by Modi government after the Cabinet expansion, took charge of the office on Monday. He said that he was fortunate to get the portfolio being a science professional. Vardhan said that his ministry will try to upgrade science and technology and look to use the same for benefits of people. Further, he said that he will make stronger interaction with scientists working in the field and bring something positive out of the same.

Women participate in Wrestling Championship in J and K

Katra, Nov 10 (ANI): Women in Katra district of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the 10th Rustum e Hind Indian style wrestling competition to promote gender equality. The organiser of the competition, Shiv Kumar, said that women should participate equally as men, especially in wrestling. Kumar further said that wrestling competitions should be conducted at every level with camps and proper coaching facilities so that more women take up this game. Meanwhile, the women wrestlers were happy and wanted more such competitions in future. The event witnessed a large crowd of spectators at the stadium enjoying the fight and encouraging the women to perform their best.

Police arrest three accused in Australian woman murder case in Andhra Pradesh

Puttaparthi, Nov 10 (ANI): Police arrested three accused for allegedly killing an Australian woman on the outskirts of pilgrim town Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh, said a senior officer. Superintendent of Police, Sriniwas Lu said Toni Anne Ludgate was murdered by the watchman of an apartment where she was staying. Ludgate was murdered by the security guard of her apartment complex with the help of two accomplices on August 28 as the guard was unable to return the rupees 20,000 he owed her. Earlier, police exhumed body of Ludgate, who went missing over two months ago.

Modi's newly elected Cabinet portfolios announced

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inducted four cabinet ministers, three Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 14 Ministers of State in his first cabinet expansion on Sunday and the portfolios were decided later. Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is the new Defence Minister and Suresh Prabhu will now head the Railway Ministry, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government carried out the first cabinet expansion on Sunday. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who earlier held the Defence portfolio as an additional charge has now been given the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's additional charge. JP Nadda, who also took oath as a Cabinet minister on Sunday, gets the portfolio of Health and Family Welfare, which was earlier held by Dr Harsh Vardhan. Harsh Vardhan has been shifted to the Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Ministry which has been stripped off from Jitendra Singh, who has got Independent charge of Development of North Eastern Region.

Sensex and Nifty hits record high as "India becomes attractive destination for international market"

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): The SandP BSE Sensex and the Nifty rallied over 100 points in trade on Monday, led by gains in ITC, HDFC, Sun Pharma, Axis BankBSE -0.90 % and Dr Reddy's Laboratories. However, it failed to maintain this level and declined afterwards to 27,818.23, showing a loss of 55.36 points or 0.2 per cent at 27,813.27 at 11.31 a.m. local time. Market Expert Akash Jindal said that sensex may cross 30,000 level as India is being seen as an attractive destination by the international investors. He said that India is more attractive for international investors than Brazil, Russia and China or other emerging market. Further, talking about the gold prices, Jindal said that gold prices are expected to come down to Rs. 22,000 as people are now not interested in gold.
