New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while speaking at the India Global Forum on Sunday said that in the recent assembly elections the dominant issues were the governance issues that were prevalent within the country. He added that all the parties which relied on charisma of families had to face defeat in the elections. He further said that the demolition of the myth that only families can produce charisma was necessary.

Harsh Vardhan motivates Delhi to 'walk for health'

New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, motivated Delhi to 'walk for health' as he flagged off the third edition of walkathon on Sunday (November 09) in the national capital. The event began early in the morning from the India Gate in New Delhi. The health minister said walking regularly helps to restore life balance, makes people calmer, happier and more positive towards life. The youth today are more under pressure and stress and need to focus on a healthy lifestyle, simple walking can pave the way for one, he said. A number of celebrities, corporate brands and TV networks participated in the event to add to the buzz and energy. CEO of Max Bupa, Manasije Mishra said that this initiative aims to encourage people to have a healthy lifestyle by integrating walking in their daily schedule. Max Bupa Health Insurance Company has organised this health event called 'Max Bupa Walk for Health' in association with news channel 'Times Now'. It is an initiative which urges people to walk towards healthier life with their families.

He added that India needs peace across borders and hence meaningful dialogue with the neighbouring is essential. He further stated that violations of ceasefire agreement, however, hamper the environment for meaningful dialogues.

NDA regime delayed decision over cabinet expansion: PC Chacko

New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Congress leader PC Chacko on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's move to expand his Union Council of Ministers is a delayed decision and the NDA regime should have taken this much earlier. Tamil rights groups urge govt to take up fishermen issue with Sri Lanka

Chennai, Nov 09 (ANI): Tamil Rights groups screened a documentary in Chennai showcasing the plight of their fishermen and urged Central government to raise the issue with the Sri Lankan government. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held them guilty. Talking to mediapersons in Chennai, the founder of ‘the May 17 Movement’, a group demanding an independent state for Tamils living in India and Sri Lanka, Thirumurugan Gandhi, said the Indian government needs to take up the investigation very seriously. Gandhi alleged that despite Sri Lankan defence personnel visiting India time and again, the government has not bothered to take up the issue with them.

Two security personnel hurt in militant attack in Kashmir

Qazigund, Nov 09 (ANI): At least two personnel of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in a militant attack in Qazigund town of Kashmir’s Kulgam district, said police. The militants escaped taking advantage of darkness, added police. They also said search operations had been launched in the area to nab the assailants. The injured troopers were shifted to a nearby medical facility. The militants also opened fire at the bus in which the CRPF personnel were traveling. India has been bolstering its defences along the de facto border with Pakistan, fearing militant groups fighting the US-led coalition in Afghanistan will turn their energies to Kashmir, where it is trying to end a 25-year insurgency.

Indian Navy pays tribute to sailor killed after recovery vessel sunk off Vizag coast

Visakhapatnam, Nov 09 (ANI): Indian Navy paid tribute to its sailor who was killed after Torpedo Recovery Vessel sunk off the Visakhapatnam coast during a naval exercise in which four others went missing. Navy performed the last rites of commander Satish Soni by giving him state honour while the bereaved family and friends mourned and offered prayers. Soni’s wife, Sumitha Jayanth offered her last respects at the funeral. A torpedo recovery vessel sank off the coastal city of Visakhapatnam killing at least one person, the navy said on Friday, in the latest accident to raise concerns about the ageing fleet. Four other crew members are missing from the 28 personnel on board when the ship sank late on Thursday (November 06). The vessel was on an exercise to recover practice torpedoes fired by fleet ships, when flooding occurred in one of the compartments, the navy said in a statement.

PM Modis first Cabinet expansion to take place by afternoon

New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Almost 20 new faces are expected to take oath of office to be a part of the reshuffled Union Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Manohar Parrikar, who tendered his resignation as the Chief Minister of Goa on Saturday, is widely expected to bag the post of the next Defence Minister. The BJP Parliamentary Board held a meeting in New Delhi on Saturday to finalize the list of leaders joining the Union Cabinet. Besides Parrikar, party MPs Anurag Thakur, Col. Sonaram Chaudhary and Hansraj Ahir are among those likely to be included in the Cabinet. BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Rajiv Pratap Rudy are also expected to be allotted Cabinet berths. Former union minister Yashwant Sinha's son Jayant too is in the race for the Cabinet berth, with reports suggesting that the first-time Hazaribagh MP is being considered as a Minister of State (MoS) for Defence or Finance. According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also host a tea party for the probable ministers today before the swearing-in ceremony.
