Politicos react after P Chidambaram blames Manmohan Singh for 2G scam

New Delhi/Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Saturday after Former finance minister P Chidambaram on Friday said that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should have cancelled the 2G licenses. BJP leader Sambit Patra said that in a way congress has accepted there mistake regarding 2G scam. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the cabinet should have taken the 2G spectrum allocation within its purview. However, DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that since there had been no loss in the 2G spectrum allocation, hence, there was no reason of cancelling the licenses.

Power to be restored in Kashmir after days of restoration work

Poonch, Nov 08 (ANI): The power department of Jammu and Kashmir has started working on restoration work of power supply after the valley was destroyed in the recent floods. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley in September. Meanwhile, an executive engineer of Electricity Division in Poonch district, Mohammad Maqbool Nayak, said that one of the transformers in the area was damaged, which led to power crisis in the area. He further said they had borrowed power from Rajouri district and are working on installing another transformer to meet the requirements. He also added that the power supply in Poonch will be restored to 95 percent in another 10 to 15 days.

Sonia & Rahul Gandhi congratulates Manmohan Singh on being bestowed with Japan's highest civilian ho

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday congratulated former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on being conferred with Japan’s highest civilian honour ‘Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers’. Senior party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad were also present. Singh was offered with flowers and shawl in respect by the Congress leaders. The Japanese government headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday announced that it had conferred a rare civilian honour on Singh for enhancing ties between Asia’s second and third largest economies. Singh is the first Indian to be bestowed with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers, which is a ‘high level National Order’, a statement from the Japanese embassy said.

PM Modi offers prayers at Varanasi Assi ghat, launches 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Varanasi, Nov 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his second day of visit to Varanasi by offering prayers at the ' Assi ghat' of river Ganga, assisted by five priests who supported him in performing the 'Ganga Pujan'. He also swept the ghat to mark the beginning of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' from his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. Several laborers joined him as he cleaned the ghat. Later in the day, he is scheduled to visit the Mata Anandamayee Hospital to take first hand stock of the functioning. Before flying back to the national capital, the Prime Minister will also pay a visit to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

PM Modi nominates 9 people for 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' from Assi ghat part-1

Varanasi, Nov 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi from Assi ghat. Modi while speaking to mediapersons said that he has launched the cleanliness campaign in Varanasi. He added that the social organizations have assured him that the Assi ghat will be cleaned as soon as possible. He further nominated nine people to carry out ‘cleanlimess drive’ further. The list includes Raju Shrivastav, Manu Sharma, singer Kailash Kher, Padma Shri Devi Parsad Dwivedi, Swami Rambhadracharya, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, Bhojpuri playback singer Manoj Tiwari, cricketer Mohd Kaif and Suresh Raina.

Kerala Bar Hotels Association President firm on bribery charges against state finance minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 08 (ANI): The working President of Bar Hotels Association of Kerala, Biju Ramesh said that he stands by his allegations of bribery against the state Finance Minister KM Mani. Ramesh had accused Mani of seeking a bribe of rupees 50 million from him, of which an amount of rupees 10 million has already been paid. Kerela Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, however, had dismissed graft allegations against Mani and called the accusations baseless. The tropical state of Kerala, which has the country's highest alcohol consumption per capita, is moving to become alcohol-free within 10 years.
