Parents protest after Class 1 student allegedly molested in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 10 (ANI): Parents staged a protest in Kolkata on Monday (November 10) after a girl of class 1 was allegedly sexually abused inside the school premises. Hundreds of parents gathered outside the school to seek immediate action against the school authorities. Parents alleged the girl was molested inside the school campus but the authorities have not spoken anything yet. A mother, Ishmita Roy, demanded that a complaint be filed on this issue immediately. Recurring sexual assaults on minor girls have raised questions about safety of students in schools and have evoked public outrage.

HC upset after Haryana police fail to produce Rampal

Chandigarh, Nov 10 (ANI): The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday pulled up Haryana police after they failed to produce Rampal, citing resistance by his followers. Public prosecutor Anupam Gupta said that the Court has expressed severe displeasure towards state government for failing to produce Rampal in the court. He added that the Court has directed the Registrar General to issue fresh non-bailable warrant of arrest of Rampal. He further added that the Court has also directed the State Government to immediately execute the warrant of arrest and produce Rampal before the Court on 17th.

MEA briefs about Modi's engagements during Australia visit

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs informed about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's engagements during his visit to Australia. Secretary (East) of MEA, Anil Wadhwa said that Modi will be meeting Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and hold delegation level talks with him. Wadhwa also said that a number of agreements will be signed and announcements will be made on new initiatives.

Sri Lanka to transfer five fishermen on death row to Indian prison

New Delhi/ Chennai, Nov 10 (ANI): BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, said on Monday (November 10) that five fishermen sentenced to death in Sri Lanka on the charge of drug trafficking will be transferred to an Indian jail. He said the fishermen, belonging to Tamil Nadu, will be transferred to India as per the agreement between the two countries, signed in year 2010. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held the five fishermen guilty of drug trafficking. Meanwhile, Swamy said the deadlock was broken after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the issue. The arrest of the Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy has been a major topic of debate between the two nations. Fishermen from both the countries frequently stray into each other's territory and end up spending years in their jails.

State Governor OP Kohli recently signed the controversial Gujarat Local Authorities Laws Bill, 2009, which has the provisions of compulsory voting and 50 per cent reservation for women in the institutions of local self-governance. While BJP, NCP along with BJD and Congress welcomed the same and said that they will wait to see on the repercussions of the same and how it is accepted in India, Gujarat PCC Chief Arjun Modhwadia stood against the same. Modhwadia said that the bill will ultimately become a reason to apply force on citizens for the BJP government.

Security beefed up before murder-accused Rampal produced in court

Chandigarh/ Hisar, Nov 10 (ANI): Police and state administration in Punjab beefed up security measures on Monday (November 10) hours before murder-accused Sant Rampal is produced in court for contempt. Rampal faces contempt for skipping judicial proceedings before a sessions court in Hisar last Wednesday (November 05), after which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him and his aide. He had been earlier shifted to Barwala town in the Hisar district but will now be produced in the joint state Punjab and Haryana High Court. The District Collector (DC) of the Chandigarh administration where Rampal is to be produced later on Monday (November 10), Mohammed Shayin, said that security measures had been beefed up judging how last time about 50, 000 of his supporters had collected in protest. Rampal has been charged with murder; attempt to commit murder and other charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 2006 after his followers attacked villagers.

Manohar Parrikar files nomination for Rajya Sabha from UP

Lucknow, Nov 10 (ANI): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday filed his nomination papers for election to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh on the last date for nomination on ten seats of the state. At present he is not member of any house in the parliament. Elections, if needed, will be held on November 20. Samajwadi Party, BSP and Congress party nominees have already filed their nominations. Parrikar said he was proud to file nomination from UP. Further the Defence Minister said that he would be defenceless before press but never let the nation be defenceless.
