Iraqi PM Haider al Abadi arrives in Mosul as victory is declared over Isis

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi arrived in Mosul to congratulate Iraqi forces for their victory against Isis. Iraqi security forces raised the national flag in the ruins of Mosuls Old City on July 9. The victory comes with a heavy toll on the Iraqi army with forces suffering 40% losses in the battle. Large parts of Mosul lie in ruins after eight months of fighting. Thousands of civilians were killed in clashes between Iraqi armed forces and Isis militants and more than one million of the citys inhabitants were displaced. Isis first seized Mosul in June 2014 and declared the beginning of an Islamic caliphate in its Old City. Jul 9, 2017

Iraqi forces free children trapped under rubble in Mosuls Old City

Iraqi forces rescued civilians, mostly children, from destroyed houses in Mosuls Old City. More than 20 civilians were pulled from the rubble of houses destroyed by fleeing ISIS militants. Footage of the Iraqi Federal Police shows officers giving water to rescued children. ISIS fighters vowed to fight to the death in the contested city. Italy arrests Chechen man accused of fighting with Isis

Italian police arrested a Chechen man suspected of being an Isis militant. He is believed to have been involved in attacks in Grozny,  Chechnya, in 2014. The attacks on media offices and a school left 19 dead. The 38-year-old man is accused of crimes of international terrorism. A video showing a Kurdish fighter nearly being shot by an ISIS sniper has emerged online. The unidentified woman can be seen taking an aim with her own sniper riffle through a window in Raqqa, Syria, before a bullet hits the wall behind her, right next to her head.
