Demand for Bangladesh caretaker govt intensifies pre general elections

Dhaka, Oct 29 (ANI): Former Bangladesh Inspector General Mohammad Khuda Baksh hoped for a discussion between the leading political parties over the boiling issue of the demand for a caretaker government, as tensions mounted ahead of the general elections.The clash of ideologies could plunge Bangladesh into a cycle of violence. Baksh, who is also the former international consultant United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan said that the issue of caretaker government could be resolved through dialogue. Baksh also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP President Begum Khaleda Zia represented the views of their parties.

PM calls upon strong disaster management capabilities

New Delhi, Oct 29 (ANI): Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has stressed on the need to strengthen the country’s disaster management mechanisms against the backdrop of the recent natural disasters that had struck the nation. Singh made this statement at the 5th meeting of the National Disaster Management Agency that was chaired by him. Singh appreciated the collaboration between the Odisha government and the NDMA for its preparedness to have tackled the natural disaster of cyclone Phailin and consequently saving many lives.
