It happens: Kashmir Sufi Festival

Srinagar, Nov 22 (ANI): The Ministry of Tourism in India s Kashmir organised a folk music festival Shahsrang to revive the Sufi legacy of the Valley. The festival kicked off in the summer capital, Srinagar on the banks of famed Dal Lake, at Sher-i-KashmirInternational Conference Centre (SKICC). Shahsrang celebrates various genres of Kashmiri Sufiyana, folk music and Kashmiri light music. The festival includes grand cultural show presented by renowned Kashmiri artists. Shahsrang focuses on the traditional use of mystic poetry, the songs of yearning and remembrance of history that have fashioned Kashmir s folk music into an essential repository of memory and faith. A number of music lovers were seen enjoying the mystic musical performances by various Kashmiri artistes. The defining feature of the society of Jammu and Kashmir is Sufism. It was in a 1400 AD that wandering, itinerant Sufis arrived in Kashmir. Sufism became the way of life for a majority of the peoples of the valley.

Agra, Nov 22 (ANI): A large number of shoe makers, finished leather suppliers, component manufacturers, machinery and equipment suppliers, congregate at the four-day International Footwear Fair in Agra city ofIndia s northern Uttar Pradesh state.The changing trends in shoe making, new designs and upgraded machinery were the centre of attraction of the shoe fair.Intrinsic machinery, finished products and latest equipments used in European countries were on display so that Indian shoe making houses too can upgrade their machines and offer products at par with International quality and standards. Visitors and Footwear manufacturers thronged the stalls of the fair to take a look at the latest designs and components used in shoe making in various parts of the world. The representatives claimed that these machines would bring a new wave of change in the Indian footwear fashion industry.

Carnival showcases culture of the northeastern region in New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Under the theme of "connecting people, celebrating life" a two-day-long Northeast carnival festival was held at the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts in New Delhi. The event not only showcased the culture and traditions of the region but also aimed to create awareness about the region, its prospects and potentials. The festival was organised by Trend MMS, with support from the eight northeastern states, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of DoNER. As part of the event there were discussions on security, tourism opportunities, employment options and various other issues that affect people of the region. Boxing icon MC Mary Kom from Manipur and star Adil Hussain from Assam attended the event. The major attraction at the venue was the Food Zone where people of the region put up their traditional food stalls. Delhites got a chance to enjoy some delicious food.

Kapil Sibal criticizes Narendra Modi and MP government

Bhopal, Nov 22 (ANI): Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday took a jibe at BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, and also slammed the incumbent BJP government in Madhya Pradesh for the poor growth index in the state. Addressing mediapersons in Bhopal, Sibal said that Modi is only interested in bashing the Congress party, rather than focusing on issues of development. India, EU to enhance bilateral talks to resolve competition issues

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): European Commission Vice President, Joaquin Almunia, who is in India to participate in the '3rd BRICS International Competition Conference (ICC)', during a meeting on Friday in the capital said that EU looks forward to engage in bilateral talks with Indian authorities and enhance cooperation in resolving competition issues. India and the European Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to increase cooperation between the European Commission's competition department and the Competition Commission of India.

Cyclone Helen makes landfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh, Nov 22 (ANI): Cyclone Helen, a severe cyclonic storm swirling over Bay of Bengal, crossed southern coast and made landfall near Machilipatnam district in Andhra Pradesh on Friday at around 2:15 pm with wind speeds upto 100-150 kilometres per hour, local authorities said. Disaster teams have been deployed in six districts - Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari. Helen is a low intensity cyclone in comparison to Cyclone Phailin.

Tehelka case: Goa Police file FIR against Tarun Tejpal

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): The Goa Police on Friday filed an FIR against Tehelka editor in chief Tarun Tejpal, who has been accused by a woman journalist of sexual assault during an event in Goa. According to police an FIR has been filed and the crime branch could send a team of officials to Delhi for further investigation. Meanwhile, Tejpal in a statement said that he will cooperate with the investigation.

PIL against Modi rejected by Supreme Court

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): A Public interest litigation (PIL) that has accused Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of filing incomplete details in his nomination papers for the 2012 assembly polls, has been dismissed by the Supreme Court. Chief Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it is a matter that lies within the jurisdiction of the chief election officer of the state. The PIL was filed by Sunil Sarawgi. He had sought the quashing of the election officer's decision not to reject Modi's nomination paper.

Clash of ideologies between feuding parties plunges Bangladesh into violence

Dhaka, Nov 22 (ANI): Bangladesh Supreme Court advocate and Vice Chairman of the country's Bar Council, Khandker Mahbub Hossain ruled out personal enmity between the feuding parties highlighting clash of their ideologies, exploiting tension between secularists and Islamists ahead of elections due by next January. Hossain while talking to a reporter in Dhaka said on Friday that the political battle between the leading ladies depended on their ideologies and manifestoes. Stressing on the need for an impartial government, Hossain called for free and fair elections in the country. Pinning hopes on a discussion between the two parties, Hossain said the ongoing deadlock would come to an end.

Narendra Modi slams 'anti-poor Congress' for making false promises

Khandwa, Nov 22 (ANI): Addressing a public rally in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi slammed the Congress party and said that the Congress makes false promises and never keeps up with their promises. Further, he talked about the Congress' anti-poor policies and said that Congress started taxes on the export of cotton, whereas subsidized meat selling and exports. He also said that the Congress government had promoted the liquor market by selling the rotten wheat to liquor companies and not giving the surplus wheat grains to the poor.

Gaya, Nov 22 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat on Friday condemned the sexual assault incident involving Tehelka magazine editor Tarun Tejpal, and asked that if offenders can decide punishments for themselves, then what is the use of having laws and courts in the country? Jabalpur, Nov 22 (ANI): Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Friday blamed the ruling Congress Party for mishandling the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and creating resentment among the people of the region. In July this year, the Congress had passed a resolution for the creation of the new Telangana state, a move that revived deep political divisions. Joshi said that the BJP supported the bifurcation, however, it was against the mishandling of the entire procedure that also fuelled protests and violence.
