Sushma Swaraj's demand for AK Ganguly's resignation draws mixed reactions

Kolkata/ New Delhi, Dec 03 (ANI): A day after BJP Senior leader Sushma Swaraj demanded the resignation of former Supreme Court judge AK Ganguly, accused of sexually harassing a law intern, politicos from different political parties reacted on the same. While BJP Vice President supported the fellow party leader's stand, NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that as the investigation is under process, Ganguly should resign. JD (U) leader Shivanand Tiwari said that he should be tried like any other accused and the charge on him cannot be judged on the basis of age or position. Meanwhile, CPM leader Mohd Salim said that the probe should carry on but knowing the former judge, one cannot say that such charges are true.

1984 anti-Sikh riots: SC rejects Sajjan Kumar's plea, asks him to face trial for murder

New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Sajjan Kumar's petition to drop murder charges against him in the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases. The court asked Kumar to face trial for murder in Delhi’s Sultanpuri, during the riots that followed the assassination of late PM Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards. The politician stands accused of murder, rioting and promoting hatred between communities which allegedly led to the deaths of six people in Sultanpuri.

BJP divided over Justice AK Ganguly's resignation issue

New Delhi, Dec 03 (ANI): Even as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj demanded resignation of West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman AK Ganguly, clear signs of differences emerged on Wednesday within the BJP camp over the resignation issue. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy differed from Swaraj by saying that Justice Ganguly shouldn't tender his resignation on the basis of just an allegation.

Salman Bashir urges India to restore peace talks

New Delhi/ Ranbir Singh Pura, Dec 03 (ANI): Outgoing Pakistan envoy to India, Salman Bashir strongly pitched for the resumption of Indo-Pak composite dialogue, to restore peace talks and reiterated the demand for resolution of Kashmir issue between the two nations for lasting peace. Pakistani journalist delegation visits India to boost trade relations

Wagah Border Post, Dec 03 (ANI): A delegation of Pakistani journalists arrived in India and laid emphasis on the need to strengthen trade ties between both the nations in a bid to bolster relations. The delegation entered India through Wagah border post in Punjab, on Monday. The group comprising 23 journalists is on a two-day visit to the holy city of Amritsar and also to see the progress of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) set up by India and Pakistan for cross-border trade. Recently, there were demands by some associations in India urging government to put a ban on the Attari-Wagah based traders to stop sending tomatoes to Pakistan.

BNP extends nationwide strike in Bangladesh over poll dates

Narayanganj/ Dhaka, Dec 03 (ANI): Bangladesh's opposition party and its rightwing allies extended their nationwide strike for two more days, seeking postponement of polls, even as violence rages on. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led agitation, which was scheduled to end on Sunday has virtually paralysed the country straight for the second week. BNP spokesperson and joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed through a video message declared that the blockade would now continue till 5:00 pm (local time) Thursday.

Bhopal gas tragedy survivors demand justice

Bhopal, Dec 03 (ANI): Survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy held a candle light vigil and protested for justice in Bhopal. In the early hours of December 03, 1984, a pesticide factory owned by the U.S. multinational, Union Carbide, accidentally released about 40 metric tonnes of deadly methyl isocyanate gas into Bhopal's atmosphere. Protestors lit candles and torches and shouted slogans against the central and provincial government. Leader of Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan (Bhopal Gas Victims Women Organisation), Abdul Jabbar explained the purpose of the protest.

Anand Sharma discuss food security in developing nations at G-33 meet

Bali, Dec 03 (ANI): India pitched for considering the issues of developing nations at the ministerial meeting between G-33 member nations on food security, ahead of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) conference in Indonesia. Interacting with reporters Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said that issues related to stockpiling of food supplies were discussed in the meeting at Indonesian resort of Bali. India had urged G-33 members to maintain a balance and consider the issues of developing and poor nations, while concluding on food security norms.
