People visit beaches, water parks to cool off in summer heat

Visakhapatnam/ Kolkata, May 24 (ANI): As there is no respite from the scorching sun in most of the parts of India, people are opting for cooler ways to escape the sizzling summer heat. In Visakhapatnam, people toiling under heat wave headed to a beach to cool off and take bath in the sea water. The residents were seen carrying umbrellas and drinking fruit juices to protect themselves from the sun and beat the heat. Mumbai, May 24 (ANI): With the Lok Sabha polls leaving the Congress badly hurt, key ally NCP demanded more seats for itself in the Maharashtra Assembly polls due later this year. NCP chief Sharad Pawar has blamed the Congress party for NCP's poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls. Reacting over this, NCP national secretary Majeed Memon on Saturday supported Pawar and said that Pawar made a pitch for his party getting more seats as part of the seat-sharing arrangement on the strength of its better performance in the Lok Sabha polls. He added that Congress's rigidity will not help the party's political revival in Maharashtra. During the last Assembly polls in 2009, NCP had contested 114 seats and Congress 174 in the 288-member House. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, NCP contested 21 seats and won four, while Congress managed to clinch just two of the 27 seats it fought, the worst-ever showing by the party.
