Security beefed up in India post militant attack in Pakistan airport

New Delhi/ Mumbai, June 09 (ANI): India beefed up security on its airports in metro cities on Monday after a group of heavily armed gunmen stormed the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, where at least 26 people were killed in a night-long battle. Defence Expert Bharat Verma said the attack raises serious concerns for India. The assault took place on Sunday even as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government tries to engage Taliban militants in talks to end years of fighting.

Congress delegation meets Delhi Chief Secretary over power crisis issue

New Delhi, June 09 (ANI): A Congress delegation on Monday met Chief Secretary of Delhi, Sanjay Kumar Srivastava over the issue of power crisis in the national capital. The Delhi Congress leaders later gheraoed the Chief Secretary as the government has surrendered on the issue and had failed to find a solution in the matter. Congress has also said that they would gherao the residences of the seven BJP MPs in the national capital unless the crisis in the power and water supply situation in the city was resolved soon. Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had ordered strioct measures to tackle the situation and had said that power supply to malls in Delhi will be stopped after 10 PM.

Baloch youth on hunger strike to demand an end to enforced disappearance

Karachi / Geneva, June 9: In Karachi's sweltering heat, at a protest camp outside the Press Club, Lateef Gohar, a young man in his early 20s, is lying stretched out on a footpath. He has refused food since April 22. The hunger strike is to protest against the abduction of a nationalist student leader, Zahid Baloch, by Pakistani security forces. Zahid, who heads the Baloch Student Organisation (Azad), was picked up from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, onMarch 18. The Frontier Corps personnel are said to have held him at gunpoint. The police has refused to register a complaint against his enforced disappearance.
