Maharashtra doctors end strike after six days on CM's intervention

Mumbai, July 07 (ANI): Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO) members, who were on a strike since July 1, called it off on Monday after the intervention of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Chavan stated that most of the demands of MAGMO had been accepted earlier and the government is positive on some of the issues raised by them. MAGMO president Rajesh Gaikwad said that the organization is withdrawing the agitation on the assurance of the Chief Minister. The strike had paralyzed the healthcare situation in the state. Doctors went on the agitation for 11 of their demands that are pending.

Budget Session: Arun Jaitley blames UPA for poor state of railways

New Delhi, July 07 (ANI): Blaming the UPA government for the price rise, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Rajya Sabha on Monday said that the previous government has soiled the seeds of inflation which the NDA government is carrying upon them. He said that the poor state of railways is the result of the previous government and the rise in passenger and freight fare was decided in their tenure to implement as soon as the NDA government takes over. The 42-day-long Budget Session of Parliament begins from Monday and will have 28 sittings.

New Delhi, July 07 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu hit at senior Congress leader Kamal Nath's remark over Lok Sabha Speaker, as fight between the ruling BJP and Congress party for the post of Leader of Opposition deepens. Naidu said that the Speaker would decide whether to accord the Leader of Opposition status to the Congress party or not as per the rule book. Earlier on Saturday, Kamal Nath had questioned the neutrality of Speaker Sumitra Mahajan over giving the Leader of Opposition post to the party. Meanwhile, India's Lower House (Lok Sabha) speaker, Sumitra Mahajan remained evasive on the issue adding that she was ready for talks if Congress party approached her.

Ministers discuss various measures for cleaning River Ganges, invite suggestions

New Delhi, July 07 (ANI): Indian ministers, lawmakers, scientists, religious leaders and NGO's participated in a day-long dialogue on River Ganges rejuvenation plan on Monday and invited measures from experts and public to aid in the efforts. Issues related to pollution of the Ganges were addressed and discussion findings were shared with the committee of secretaries that has been working on a plan on the development of the river. Minister of Water Resources, Uma Bharti, said that the people involved in the Ganges cleaning project, irrespective of their departments, were all united on seeing the holy river in a pristine state once again. She also said that the government will do its best to rejuvenate the river with the aid of experts and country's common man.
