SC issues notice to Salman Khan in Black buck poaching case

New Delhi, July 09 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to actor Salman Khan on Rajasthan government_s plea challenging the HC order suspending his conviction in the black buck killing case. The court has asked Salman, who was sentenced to five years in jail by a trial court, to file reply within four weeks.

Police arrest three Maoists in Jharkhand

Palamu, July 09 (ANI): Police arrested three Maoists with arms and ammunition in Palamu district of Jharkhand. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team conducted search operation and arrested three members of new ultra outfit _Sashastra People_s Morcha_ (SPM) while two others escaped. Superintendent of Police, Y S Ramesh, said they were involved in setting ablaze three machines of a private firm, which were engaged in implementing social forestry project. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.

India, UK discuss ways to strengthen mutual cooperation

New Delhi, July 09 (ANI): UK Chancellor of Exchequer George Osborne and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met for the Seventh Round of The UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue and discussed ways to strengthen mutual cooperation and further boost trade and investment between the two countries. Earlier, British foreign secretary, William Hague, and Osborne met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss plans for more British investment in Indian infrastructure.

Supervisory committee to inspect Mullaperiyar dam on July 17

iruvananthapuram, July 09 (ANI): A supervisory committee set up to raise the water storage level in Mullaperiyar reservoir to 142 feet, in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court, will inspect the dam on July 17. Additional chief secretary of water resources in Kerala said the water level in Mullaperiyar dam was low due to weak monsoon and it was difficult to share dam water with neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Kurian added the committee would be able to come to a solution only after inspecting the dam.

CII hails railway budget

New Delhi, July 09 (ANI): The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) hailed the railway budget that sought public-private partnerships to finance the bulk of future railway projects to modernize the vast but underfunded network. Indian railways minister Sadananda Gowda_s move to push private investment signals the appetite Prime Minister Narendra Modi_s new government has for taking tough and unpopular decisions he said are needed to revive the economy. CII vice-president, Raj Seth, said railways lacked adequate infrastructure to meet the demands.

Technology will be used to maximum for services: Railway Board Chairman

New Delhi, July 09 (ANI): Safety, cleanliness, improved technology and tourism were the focus areas of the railway budget, said railway board chairman Arunendra Kumar. Kumar said technology was being used in a big way and the focus was also made on rail tourism. Meanwhile, Kumar also said resources were required in railways and he looked forwards to investments. In his maiden rail budget, Railway Minister, Sadananda Gowda, said his ministry would seek cabinet approval for allowing FDI in railways, but passenger services would be excluded. However he did not give details on how he will attract investors.
