BJP on reports of party forming next Government in Delhi

New Delhi, July 16 (ANI): The BJP is reportedly making attempts to stake claim to form government in Delhi, which has been under President's Rule for the last six months. Sources said if the BJP does stake claim, senior leader Jagdish Mukhi will be its candidate for chief minister. While officially the party has denied any such move, sources said the Delhi unit is attempting to make a last ditch effort to form government.

Rajeev Shukla demands strict action against James Anderson by ICC

New Delhi, July 16 (ANI): Former IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday maintained that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should take strong steps against England fast bowler James Anderson for his alleged misbehavior against spinner Ravindra Jadeja, and set an example before others. Anderson has been charged for allegedly abusing and pushing Ravindra Jadeja immediately after they left the field for lunch on Thursday. It is alleged that this was a continuation of a verbal altercation between Anderson and Jadeja as they were walking from the field. The Congress leader also added that a complaint has been lodged against Anderson.

Poverty, child and maternal deaths still high in India, states UN Report

New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar, July 16 (ANI): A United Nations report on ___Millennium Development Goals___ stated that India continues to battle poverty, child and maternal deaths and sanitation, adding sustained efforts were required to cover the gap by 2015 deadline. Minority affairs minister, Najma Heptulla, while releasing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG) report on Wednesday said the four references in the report were not flattering. Many more goals are within reach by their 2015 target date, the report said, adding that if current trends continue, the world will surpass MDG targets on malaria, tuberculosis and access to HIV treatment. Meanwhile, an economist Jayati Ghosh said the government never paid heed to issue of poverty while preparing the annual budget.

1 BSF jawan killed, 3 injured in ceasefire violation By Pakistan

Jammu, July 16 (ANI): Pakistani Rangers on Wednesday resorted to unprovoked firing once again at an outpost along the international border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing a jawan. Three other BSF personnel and four civilians were also injured during the firing. The injured soldiers and the civilians were rushed to the nearby hospital in Jammu city. According to reports, BSF troops, guarding the borderline, took positions and effectively retaliated resulting in exchanges which are still going on in the area.

Shri Shakti Express to Katra stuck in tunnel for an hour due to engine failure

Katra, July 16 (ANI): The newly introduced direct train to Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, was stuck in a tunnel for an hour on Wednesday due to engine failure near Katra Railway Station. The fully air conditioned super fast train Shri Shakti Express from New Delhi to Katra was on its second run when the incident took place about five kms before the station.

SC issues notice to states, UTs on legalising passive euthanasia

New Delhi, July 16 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to all states and Union territories on a plea for legalizing passive euthanasia. The SC has appointed former solicitor general TR Andhyarujina as amicus curiae to assist it in the case relating to legalizing euthanasia. The Centre argued in the court that passive euthanasia is a form of suicide which cannot be allowed.
