President Obama's visit will strengthen ties across full spectrum of Indo-US relation: MEA

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin while giving details of the itinerary of the US President Barack Obama visit to India in a press conference on Thursday, said that Obama's visit is being seen as strengthening of ties across the full spectrum of India-US relationship. Akbaruddin said that US is India's key interlocutor in adjustments to global security architecture and that India sees vast potential in growth of its relations with the US. While pouring out the details of the itinerary of the US President's three-day visit to India, Akbaruddin added that Obama will visit Taj Mahal on 27 January before departing for US. New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): India on Thursday said that banning Jamaat-ud-Dawa and Haqqani network under the pressure of the United States does not show Pakistan's commitment against terrorism in any way. Security Expert Alok Bansal said that it is welcome step but only if Pakistan keeps banning other such outfits which emerge in the nation. BJP Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that this does not show that Pakistan is committed to work against terrorism. Earlier in a paradigm shift in its policy against terrorism, Pakistan has included Jamaat-ud-Dawa (Jud) led by the 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed and the dreaded Haqqani network in the list of proscribed organisations after the US mounted pressure on the country. New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the BCCI to conduct fresh elections within 6 weeks and also refrained former BCCI President N Srinivasan from contesting. While asking Srinivasan to choose between Chennai Super Kings and BCCI chief's post, the Supreme Court held guilty his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra for betting in the IPL scam. The SC has barred Srinivasan from contesting elections till such time he had commercial interest in cricket. Panipat, Jan 22 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign for the survival, protection and education of the girl child. The campaign aims to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) through a mass campaign across the country targeted at changing societal mindsets and creating awareness about the criticality of the issue. It will have focused intervention and multi-sectoral action in 100 districts with low Child Sex Ratio. It will be a major inter-ministerial initiative of the Government of India bringing together Ministries, institutions and civil societies in a rational effort to reverse the declining sex ratio. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development will be nodal ministry and will be assisted by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this endeavour. Kanpur, Jan 22 (ANI): Professors of a prestigious technology institute in Kanpur claimed to have developed a portable unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which could help security forces patrol better in border areas. It could also prove handy to police in monitoring traffic and other issues. Designers said the light UAV fitted with cameras could fly at a very low height to keep vigil in sensitive areas. It could also be used to keep an eye on wildlife in jungles, frequently targeted by poachers. They said it could also help security forces in their fight against Maoist rebels. The UAV can be carried in a bag. The attached wings on both sides of UAV can be detached and carried anywhere to make it handy for police and security personnel. Security forces arrest two hardcore rebels in Jharkhand

Gumla, Jan 22 (ANI): Security forces arrested two hardcore Maoists in a major offensive against rebels in Jharkhand, a senior police official said. Several arms, bullets and various mobile phones were recovered from their hideout. Meanwhile, a security personnel allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Gumla district. The deceased security personnel was identified as Ashish Thapa.
