Cyclone Hudhud hammers Vizag before lashing heavy rains in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Oct 13 (ANI): After leaving at least five people dead and a trail of destruction in the port city of Visakhapatnam and adjoining districts of Odisha, rains lashed Jharkhand in the wake of Cyclone Hudhud, after it made landfall earlier on Sunday. Cyclone Hudhud blasted eastern seaboard with gusts of up to 195 km per hour (over 120 mph), uprooting trees, damaging buildings and killing at least five people despite a major evacuation effort. Visakhapatnam was hammered as the cyclone made landfall, unleashing the huge destructive force it had sucked up from the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal. Most people heeded warnings to take refuge, but five were killed by falling trees and masonry, and thousands of homes were damaged, emergency officials said. Strong winds and heavy rains lashed Jharkhand on Sunday night because of which electric poles and trees were destroyed in the interior of the state. New Delhi, Oct 13 (ANI): A police constable was killed and another seriously injured after they were shot at by three unidentified people, near a police station at Rohini's Vijay Vihar area in early hours on Monday. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vikramjeet Singh, the policemen tried to stop three men who were travelling in an autorickshaw, following which the men opened fire at the constables, hitting one in the chest and the other in the back. The constable who was hit in the chest died. Meanwhile, the three attackers managed to flee from the spot. The constable with serious injury is undergoing treatment in a hospital. Bijnor, Oct 13 (ANI): A ten-year-old boy was killed by a man-eater tigress in Uttar Pradesh, said a forest official. The big cat attacked him when the boy was playing near his house in Bijnor district. After hearing the screams, parents of the boy attacked the animal with sticks after which it fled in the forest area. However, the boy died due to severe bleeding. Depletion of their habitat has also threatened the wild animals, forcing them to stray into human settlements - attacking people, poultry birds and livestock cattle - and often getting killed in return. Jaipur, Oct 13 (ANI): At least 22 school children were injured when a bus carrying them turned turtle in Jaipur, said a senior police officer. The accident happened when the bus carrying 57 children for a picnic on the outskirts of city of Jaipur tumbled. No causalities have been reported till now but condition of three children is critical. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Karan Singh, said the cause of accident was under investigation. Model hospitals being constructed to boost rural healthcare in Assam

Jorhat, Oct 13 (ANI): The Saraibahi area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Titabor sub-division of Assam's Jorhat District, comprises nearly 25 villages with a total population of over 40000. Most of these villages have to depend on a few dispensaries for their basic healthcare needs. However, the construction of a new model hospital under the National Rural Health Mission has come as a big relief, as people do not have to go to big towns anymore to avail better treatment. The basic objective of constructing such model hospitals in the state is to provide quality healthcare facilities to people residing in the remote areas. The Government of Assam is trying to provide better healthcare facilities to people residing in rural and interior areas by establishing model hospitals. It has decided to construct 55 new model hospitals under the National Rural Health Mission. Around 35 hospitals have already started functioning. There are 4 model hospital in Jorhat one is already completed and 3 more are still under construction. These hospitals with a capacity of 30 beds will be equipped with all the modern amenities as per the Indian Public Health Standard. Oct 13, 2014
