Family of deceased security personnel demands death penalty for Sabyasachi Panda

Bhubaneswar, July 23 (ANI): The family of deceased security personnel, Pramod Kumar Satapathy, demanded capital punishment for the top Maoist leader, Sabyasachi Panda, who was arrested and sent to 10 days of police custody. Special Operation Group commando, Satapathy, was one of the 17 officers who laid down their lives in the process of fighting armed Maoists on February 15, 2008 in Nayagarh district of Odisha. On July 18, Panda was produced in front of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) of Berhampur amid tight security where he was ordered to be sent on 10-day police custody. Jul 23, 2014

Security personnel kill Maoist, recover arms in Jharkhand

Khunti, July 23 (ANI): Acting on a tip-off, security personnel of India’s paramilitary, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), along with the police launched an operation to nab Maoists hiding in forest area in Jharkhand on Wednesday. During the search operations, Maoists started firing at the police and during the encounter, one Maoist was shot dead. The Maoist has been identified as Vishal alias Tulsi, who was a sub-junior commander and had 22 cases against him. During the encounter, a hardcore rebel, Panda Munda, belonging to People’s Liberation Front of India surrendered to the police. He is charged with a murder and 23 other cases. Jul 23, 2014

Japanese encephalitis kills 75 in UP

Gorakhpur, July 23 (ANI): An outbreak of Japanese encephalitis has affected more than 300 and claimed lives of 75 people in Gorakhpur city of Uttar Pradesh. The disease usually takes place during the monsoon season and India's most populous state Uttar Pradesh is ravaged by encephalitis every year and it is mostly children who succumb to this disease. Kannur, July 23 (ANI): Protests by local villagers against the increasing health hazards and environmental pollution compel authorities in Kannur city of Kerela to issue a stop notice to the ship dismantling factory of the area on Wednesday. After widespread protests by residents of Azhikkal village in the city, the District Collector, P. Balakiran, issued a stop memo to the ship-breaking unit, Steel Industrial Kerala Ltd (SILK).
