Legal position has to be followed: Manish Tewari on Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill

New Delhi, Feb 7 (ANI): A day after Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran suggested that the Delhi government enacting the Jan Lokpal Bill without the consent of the Central government will be illegal, Union minister Manish Tewari said that legal position has to be followed if the Solicitor General has informed LG about it. He further hoped that the AAP government will follow the Constitution.

Lucknow, Feb 07 (ANI): After Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill came under scrutiny following solicitor general’s claims that it is unconstitutional, AAP leader Ashutosh said that Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung is working for Congress against AAP’s Delhi government with the purpose to destabilize national capital’s government. Ashutosh said that any conversation between the LG and the solicitor general is confidential and should not be leaked and if it does, something is suspicious. Further, he claimed that the bill is well within the government’s rights and is constitutional.

Solicitor general says Delhi Jan Lokpal unconstitutional, politicos react

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): After Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran claimed Delhi Jan Lokpal bill to be unconstitutional, politicos reacted on different fronts. On one hand, JD (U) leader Ali Anwar said that the solicitor general belongs to central government and that he is speaking words of ruling Congress government. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal said that Arvind Kejriwal is aware that his government is short-termed and therefore is trying to convince people that he is fulfilling his promises. He also said that any leader should follow constitutional norms and no bill can be passed otherwise.

J&K minister Shabir Ahmad Khan booked on molestation charges, politicos condemn

New Delhi/ Jammu, Feb 07 (ANI): Politicos on Friday condemned Jammu and Kashmir Minister Shabir Ahmad Khan who was booked by police on a complaint by a lady doctor, alleging that he made an attempt to molest her. JD (U) leader Ali Anwar said that people committing such crimes should be hanged. Following the suit, SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that such cases are increasing day by day and it should be checked. Meanwhile, PDP Spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said people who stoop so low should be given harshest punishment. He also said that if J&K government has any shame, they will take proper action.

Delhi govt order SIT probe in 1984 riots, politicos welcome move

New Delhi/ Ludhiana, Feb 07 (ANI): The Delhi cabinet approved the set up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots within a time frame of one year, following the suggestion by national capital government to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. Police officers from outside Delhi would be responsible for conducting an inquiry in the case. AAP leader Sanjay Singh said this step would ensure a speedy and unbiased investigation in the case and would help in punishing the people involved in abetting the deadly riots. Human rights activist HS Phoolka, welcomed the action recommended by the Delhi government.

Indian women denied voice in decision-making: Kofi Annan

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Nobel laureate and former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, said that women in India were still denied the right to take decisions, which have an impact on their lives. Annan was addressing the 14th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit in New Delhi where he said despite marked progress in India and elsewhere, the society faces the challenge to eliminate gender discrimination and strive for equality. He added that women and girls are major drivers of development in any society and therefore people must dedicate themselves to transforming relations between men and women at all levels of society.

Kashmir separatist support Paks resolution, calls for self rule

Srinagar, Feb 07 (ANI): Separatists in Jammu and Kashmir hailed Pakistan’s resolution, calling upon India to remove security forces from the state and accept their right for self rule in the region. The Pakistan National Assembly on Tuesday (February 04) unanimously passed a resolution calling upon India to withdraw all security forces from the state and accept their right to self-determination. It also said that India should include the people of Kashmir in the Indo-Pak dialogue. The two nuclear-armed countries have fought two wars over Kashmir but had sought to ease access and commerce in a region at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility.

BJP slams Rahul Gandhi, says no input on ISI connections with Muzaffarnagar victims

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, of giving false information that Pakistan's ISI tried to recruit Muzaffarnagar riot victims. Citing central intelligence agency's report, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that there was no information that Pakistan's ISI tried to recruit riot affected Muslim men. Meanwhile, Javadekar also blamed the Congress party for disruption of Lower as well as Upper houses of the Parliament.

Jan Lokpal Bill by Delhi govt unconstitutional: Solicitor General

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Raising a red flag over the move by Delhi government to bypass the Centre on the Jan Lokpal Bill, Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran has said the Bill must be presented to the Lieutenant Governor before it is tabled in the state Assembly. Parasaran has said the Bill can become law in the National Capital Territory only after it receives the President's assent. Parasaran's opinion came in response to L-G Najeeb Jung's request for counsel on two counts: whether presenting the Bill in the Assembly without sending the legislative proposal to the Central government violates the constitution; and whether the Delhi government has the power to legislate on matters concerning the Delhi Police and the Delhi Development Authority.

Security forces to take tough action against anti-talk faction of NDFB (S) in Assam

Assam, Feb 07 (ANI): Two people, including a senior police officer and an informer, were killed and four others injured on January 28 after a police team was ambushed by cadres of NDFB (S) in Sonitpur district of Assam. The militants fired upon a police team that was returning to the local police station. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gulzar Hussain was killed in the ambush and four constables suffered bullet injuries. The injured were taken to the Tezpur Civil Hospital. On January 17, NDFB (S) killed five Hindi-speaking people in Kokrajhar district.
