Maoists call for shutdown in Imphal opposing Narendra Modi's rally

Imphal, Feb 08 (ANI): Militant outfit in northeast India called for shutdown on Saturday showing strong resistance towards BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally to be held in Imphal and Guwahati. Modi would try to strike a chord with the people by pitching his Gujarat model of development to Manipur and Assam. Modi has been touring the country to garner support for the upcoming general elections. BJP's strong showing in the recent polls in four states has boosted the momentum for Modi in the run-up to the parliamentary elections due by April 2014.

CBI Chief's comment reflects UPA's desperation to malign Narendra Modi and Amit Shah: BJP

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): Commenting on Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Chief Ranjit Sinha's statement on former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirti Azad on Saturday said that Sinha's statement reflected the desperation of the UPA's desperation to malign party's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Sinha had said that there were political expectations for the conviction of Modi and Shah in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, and that UPA government would have been very happy if such a thing had happened.

Heavy snow brings Kashmir to standstill

Poonch, Feb 08 (ANI): Kashmir woke up to fresh swathe of white flakes jamming daily life, commuters faced long and treacherous rides as snow-filled roads caused delays in public transit. Road authorities have started mechanical snow-clearing service, but incessant snowfall makes the roads slippery and unfavourable for travel. This is the third time within this week that snowfall has brought normal life to a stand still, leading to prolonged power cuts and even blocking of the arterial highway. Frequent blocking of the National-Highway, which is the arterial road link that connects Kashmir with rest of the country, due to non-stop snowfall makes life tough as essential supplies do not reach the valley on time.

Cabinet clears Telangana Bill

Hyderabad, Feb 08 (ANI): The cabinet passed the Telangana Bill which will bifurcate Andhra Pradesh for the creation of a separate Telangana state, during a special meeting of the cabinet. The Bill will be introduced in Parliament on February 11 or 12. The key demands of Seemandhra leaders that Hyderabad be made a Union Territory and Rayala Telangana be created were rejected, putting a question mark on the fate of the Bill in Parliament.
