Congress reacts to Yashwant Sinha's Gujarat Model remark

New Delhi/ Patna, April 27 (ANI): Congress leaders on Sunday reacted over BJP leader Yashwant Sinha's remark that Gujarat Model is applicable only in Gujarat. Meem Afzal stated that BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi should be asked to react over this statement. Satyavrat Chaturvedi said that even Congress has been saying this that Gujarat Model will not work in other states and all states need their specific model. Also Rashid Alvi hit out at BJP saying that they do not have any model and there are only rifts in the party. Yashwant Sinha had earlier said that Gujarat Model of development will work only in Gujarat; the country will have a different model if NDA comes to power.

Police in Amritsar arrest smugglers, recover drugs and cash

Amritsar, April 27 (ANI): Police in Punjab achieved a major success in its drive against cross-border smuggling of narcotics. Amritsar branch of State Special Operation Cell, a unit of Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, arrested three smugglers along with possession of drugs. The smugglers were identified as Jagjit Singh, Davinder Singh, Kuldip Singh and Harbinder Singh. Further investigation revealed that the smugglers have been indulging in cross-border smuggling and had recently procured two consignments of heroin from Pakistan, which they had disposed off as per the directions from Pakistani smugglers. It was further revealed that the seized consignment was the third in past one month and the recovered pistol was part of the same.

Justice R M Lodha sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, April 27 (ANI): Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha was on Sunday sworn in as the Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee. He is the 41st chief justice of India. Chief Justice Lodha succeeds Chief Justice P Sathasivam who demitted office on completion of his term Saturday. Lodha will preside over the Supreme Court for five months as his term will come to an end Sep 27, 2014. Justice Lodha is the senior-most judge after Justice Sathasivam and is also heading a benching monitoring CBI's probe into the sensitive coal blocks allocation scam. Also noteworthy was his important judgement on regulating sale of acid to prevent attacks and awarding of compensation to acid attack victims.

Aero show in Coimbatore attracts visitors

Coimbatore, April 27 (ANI): Enthusiasts thronged Coimbatore for ‘Aeroplus 2014’, which exhibited more than 20 varieties of aircrafts, choppers and their manoeuvre. The exhibition is being organised by Nehru College of Aeronautical Science and will continue for three days. Most of the aircrafts that were on display have been brought from Indian Air Force and other foreign countries. Some of the aircrafts that were on display included Hawker 1A, Beech aircraft, King Air C-90 aircraft, Cessna 150D, a rare Enstrom F-28 helicopter, etc.

Re-polling at some booths in Maharshtra, West Bengal & Assam

Mumbai, April 27 (ANI): Re polling is being observed in four areas of Maharashtra on Sunday out of which three are in Mumbai and one in Ahmednagar. The re-poll is taking place because of some technical issues occurred on the actual poll day. BJP leader Ram Naik highlighted the reasons and consequences of re-poll. Another BJP leader Gopal Shetty apologized to the public for this inconvenience caused at the cost of officials’ flaw. Meanwhile voter KN Mehta expressed the public view about re-polling and the possible reasons behind it. Re polling is also taking place in Assam and West Bengal. Meanwhile, the EC has also ordered re-polling at 12 booths in Karnataka, six in Uttar Pradesh and at one booth in Rajasthan.

Amethi, April 27 (ANI): BJP candidate from Amethi, Smriti Irani, said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has always been deficient of knowledge. She also said that she is willing to give photographic evidence of what she did as a MP in Gujarat. Earlier in an apparent dig at Smriti Irani , Priyanka had said that the people, who are contesting from Amethi, are only interested in fighting against Rahul Gandhi, and added that they will never visit this constituency again.
