Poorna made history as the youngest female ever to reach the top of the mountain at the age of 13 years. Politicians condemn abduction of Indian worker in Afghanistan, press for speedy release

Chennai, June 07 (ANI): Political fraternity condemned the abduction of an Indian aid worker in Afghanistan, and pressed the government to expedite action for his safe release. Cutting across party lines, the leaders from various political parties urged the government to speed up the process for the release of priest Alexis Prem Kumar, who was kidnapped in Herat province of Afghanistan, earlier this month. Leaders made personal appeal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk tough with Afghanistan government and press for safe release of the abducted priest. Meanwhile, CPI leader D Raja said that the abduction was human rights violations and the central government should work towards the release of the priest at the earliest. Tripura, June 07 (ANI): A group of unemployed youth launched Bamboo Enterprises United (BENU), a handicraft workshop and community facility centre, in Katlamara village in 2004. The aim was to be self employed by utilising the locally available Kanakaich variety of bamboo. The village was once a hotbed for militants and lacked proper employment and business opportunities for the youth. These young entrepreneurs provided training to rural artisans to create various bamboo items, including furniture More than 100 people are currently engaged with the project and supply bamboo products in the country and abroad. It Happens: World No Tobacco Day

Andhra Pradesh, June 6 (ANI): Internationally renowned sand artist, Sudarshan Patnaik, created an anti- smoking sculptor on sand at a beach in India's eastern Odisha and rallies were organized in southern Andhra Pradesh to create an awareness regarding the horrendous effects of smoking on World No Tobacco Day. World No Tobacco Day is observed annually on May 31 by World Health Organisation (WHO). Patnaik's 5-feet high and 20-feet long sand sculpture, which was made with 7 tons of sand, depicted the harmful effects of tobacco consumption As people gathered to have a glimpse of his artistic message, Patnaik said that his main motive was to inspire smokers to quit the harmful habit. Elsewhere, in Visakhapatnam city of southern Andhra Pradesh, hundreds of people marched with placards and balloons to spread the no-tobacco message.
