People in Jharkhand welcome police's initiative to develop Maoist-affected village

Gumla, June 07 (ANI): Residents of Bishanpur village in Gumla district of Jharkhand have welcomed the initiative taken by police to develop the village and ensure safety and protection from rebel Maoist groups. The state police organized a camp at the Maoist-affected village as a part of social policing. Villagers opined that if the police are actually willing to take such positive steps and continue to help them when they are in dire need, the village will definitely develop and will be curbed of further rebel attacks. The policemen sat with the villagers and had lunch together to inculcate trust and reduce fear among the villagers.

India reels under blistering heat wave, people turn to roadside vendors to quench thirst.

Kanpur / Jaipur / Nagpur, June 07 (ANI): The blazing sun and intense heat wave continued in many on Saturday, with temperatures remaining above 45 degrees Celsius, and people out in the sun flocked to roadside refreshment stalls to quench their thirst. The weather department on June 06 had said heat wave will intensify in northern India, predicting no rainfall or thunderstorm activity for the next few days. A resident of Kanpur Rakesh, said hot summers have left people helpless and they are looking for ways to protect themselves when venturing out in the sun. People are seen carrying umbrellas, wearing protective clothing and drinking cold beverages to protect themselves from the sweltering heat.

BSF Jawans, Villagers killed in skirmish in Tripura

Tripura, June 07 (ANI): A Border Security Force (BSF) constable reportedly committed suicide after killing a 60-year-old man along Tripura's border with Bangladesh following a quarrel with locals. At least 11 others including a woman received bullet injuries. According to angry villagers, the squabble started when security personnel of BSF stopped an elderly villager Ismile Mia from going to a pond situated next to the barbed wire border fencing in South Ramnagar in Agartala. Villagers said that the allegedly drunk BSF trooper Sandeep Kumar of 195 battalion committed suicide.

Kiren Rijiju & Tarun Gogoi pay homage to Assam SP killed in gun battle

Guwahati, June 07 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Saturday visited Guwahati city in Assam to pay tribute to a Superintendent of Police and a policeman who was killed by a militant outfit. Rijiju, accompanied by state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, paid homage to the martyr. He visited the state following the directive of Home Minister Rajnath Singh following the killing of the senior officer. The Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) militants killed a Superintendent of Police and another policeman in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Thursday during police action. Prakash Javadekar files nomination for Rajya Sabha from Bhopal

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley visits Western Naval

Mumbai, June 07 (ANI): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday visited Western Naval Command to review the operational preparedness. Jaitley may get to see the salvaged INS Sindhurakshak submarine during his visit, which had sunk on August 14 last year after an explosion. During his visit to the Western Command, Jaitley will also commission two fast-attack craft ICGS Achook and ICGS Agrim, of the Indian Coast Guard. This is Jaitley's maiden visit as Defence Minister. Jaitley will also visit INS Viraat in Mumbai harbour and then move to review the functioning and operational preparedness of the Western Naval Command.
