Congress protests against Delhi electricity crisis

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Congress workers on Thursday carried out protest against the ongoing electricity crisis in Delhi. The protest comes a day after Congress MLA Jai Kishan's hunger strike against the prolonged crisis. Workers were seen raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bhartiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal. Congress leaders slammed the government for making false promises to the people. They said that the reason behind the protest was that under BJP's rule people are not getting power for seven to eight hours, unlike when Congress was in power.

Not focused on market shares, priority to keep fares low: AirAsia India as 1st flight set to take of

Bangalore, June 12 (ANI): As the first flight of the AirAsia India, the first airline with foreign investment in India, is set to start flights on Thursday, CEO Mittu Chandilya said that they are not focused on market shares but the priority is to keep the fares low. Chandilya said that the AirAsia chose only certain cities for operation going by their belief on the cities. Further, he also said that unlike other low-cost airlines, AirAsia is not using old aircrafts and have given good attention to the food on-board.

Infosys names former SAP executive Vishal Sikka as CEO

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Infosys Ltd on Thursday named former SAP AG executive board member Vishal Sikka as its CEO. With his appointment, Sikka becomes the first non-founder CEO of Infosys, which is India's second-largest IT services exporter. The company also informed that Executive Chairman NR Narayana Murthy would step down on Saturday, nearly a year after he was brought in from retirement to help the company better compete with rivals including Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro. Sikka will take over from current Chief Executive SD Shibulal, one of the engineers who founded Infosys, from August 1.

Seventh body recovered from Beas river, search still on

Mandi, June 12 (ANI): Rescuers recovered a seventh body from the River Beas on Thursday. A search is still on to find the remaining 17 bodies from the river which had swept away 24 college students and a tour operator earlier this week. Meanwhile, a team of Navy officials visited the place and is likely to assist in rescue operations. More divers with latest equipments are also expected to join the search operations. The students, belonging to VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Hyderabad, were clicking photographs when they were swept away by the river after the officials released water from the Larji Dam located upstream.

Minor girl found hanging from tree in Moradabad, family alleges rape

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): A 16-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree in Rajupur Milak village in Moradabad district on June 12. This is the third such incident after the Badaun rape case, where two teenage Dalit girls were found hanging from a tree. The girl's family has alleged that she was raped and murdered after being reported missing the previous evening. Earlier, a woman was reportedly gangraped in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur by a Sub-inspector inside the police station.

Environment Ministry to ease norms for projects within 100 km from LAC

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday said that the Environment Ministry is planning to ease norms for strategic defence projects within 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) which is India's border with China, to enable faster permissions and simplification. He also said that delays in projects of defence will be fast tracked.

CBI takes charge of Badaun rape case, probe begins

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): The CBI has filed an FIR and taken over the probe in Badaun rape case where two Dalit girls were found hanging from a tree in their village. CBI Director Ranjit Sinha said that Government of India has handed over the case to CBI and it will soon begin probe. Meanwhile, CBI Spokesperson Kanchan Prasad stated that an FIR has been filed in the case and a team of 20 officials will leave for Badaun on Friday to begin investigations.

Sukumar Dutta Pal, a sculptor and a football fan, took over 45 days to make these idols.

BJP condemns Hamirpur Gang rape in police station

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): BJP leaders on Thursday condemned the incident of gang rape in a police station in Hamirpur by police officials. Siddharth Nath Singh stated that crime against women in Uttar Pradesh is increasing because of lawlessness and inefficiency of the state government. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also condemned the incident and said that unless government strictly applies laws against crime, condition will not improve in UP.

Campa Cola residents face eviction as deadline ends today

New Delhi, June 12 (ANI): The deadline for the residents of Campa Cola society in Mumbai to vacate their flats ends on Thursday. More than 100 residents who are living in the nine buildings have to vacate their apartments today following the Supreme Court order. The plea of residents of the building living there for years, located in suburban Worli, was rejected by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. Their plea sought a stay on the demolition of their flats till the court decides on their curative petition, which is to come up for hearing next month.

Woman allegedly gang-raped in Police Station in UP

Hamirpur, June 12 (ANI): A woman has allegedly been gangraped in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur by the Sub-inspector inside the station premises. The woman said that the she had gone to the police station to get her husband released but the Sub-inspector asked her for a bribe of Rs 20,000. The woman did not pay the bribe and was allegedly told that a false case would be lodged against her. She was later taken to a room by Sub-inspector where she was raped by the senior officer and three other policemen. The police have lodged an FIR and the Sub-inspector has been arrested.
