Woman amputee mountaineer to climb Mount Elbrus, meets Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): India's female amputee mountaineer, Arunima Sinha, and her colleagues on Friday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh before leaving for Russia to climb Mount Elbrus that is 8000 meters above the sea level. Sinha, a national level volleyball player, is country's first woman amputee to scale Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest. Singh blessed them to succeed in their efforts, adding she would be an inspiration for millions of specially-abled people. Sinha said that disability is all in the mind.

Indian workers jailed in Saudi Arabia return to New Delhi after release

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Forty Indian workers wrongly detained in a prison in Saudi Arabia's Mecca returned safely to New Delhi on Friday after the government facilitated their release. The workers, who were in prison for over a year, finally heaved a sigh of relief and joy after they were brought back to their families. Earlier on July 02, family members of the workers approached Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj, and appealed to bring back their relatives safely. The workers also blamed the Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia for being insensitive to their demands.

Pilgrims en route Amarnath shrine content with hospitality in Kashmir

CPI leaders protest outside Parliament against Israeli attacks on Gaza

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Members of Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday protested against Israeli attacks on Gaza that have killed at least 160 Palestinians, as they urged the government to discuss the issue on priority. On Friday, CPI members protested outside the Parliament and shouted anti-government slogans. CPI leader, D Raja, urged the Indian government to take up the matter.The current Israeli offensive, which began last week, has claimed the lives of at least 138 civilians, including 30 children.

Mumbai building fire: Chopper airlifts stuck firemen, one feared dead

Mumbai, July 18 (ANI): A fireman is feared to be dead in the fire that broke out on Friday in a 22-storey commercial building in a western suburb of Mumbai. The blaze started on the 21st floor of Lotus Business Park on Andheri Link road, and later spread to the 20th floor, according to fire brigade officials. The occupants were rescued by the fire-brigade personnel but a few of the rescuer got stuck and one of them is reported to have died. Two choppers pulled out a dozen firemen trapped on the rooftop after a fire they had put out started again.

Malaysian PM Najib Razak demands swift justice if flight was shot down

Malaysia, July 18 (ANI): Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak demanded swift justice for those responsible if the Malaysian airliner that came down in Ukraine was found to have been shot down. Razak on Friday said Malaysia had not been able to verify what caused the Boeing 777-200 to crash while on a flight from Amsterdam to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, but it had not made a distress call. But he said he had agreed in talks with US President Barack Obama that investigators must get full access to the site of the crash. Ukraine accused "terrorists" - militants fighting to unite eastern Ukraine with Russia - of shooting down the plane. The rebels denied responsibility.

India asks its airlines to avoid Ukraine after Malaysian plane crash

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Civil Aviation Minister, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, said on Friday that the country had issued an alert to its airlines to avoid Ukraine after the downing of a Malaysian airliner over the conflict ridden state's airspace with 298 passengers onboard. The Boeing 777, on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, came down in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, near the Russian border, on July 17, killing all 298 people on board. Meanwhile, Raju said in New Delhi that airlines were avoiding Ukraine after the crash. Meanwhile, Raju said there were no Indians on board on the ill fated Malaysian flight.

No hard evidence against Hafiz Saeed, can_t put him in jail to please everyone: Pak Envoy

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit on Friday said that Hafiz Saeed is a private citizen of Pakistan and the country cannot put him behind bars in absence of _hard evidence_ against him. Basit also added that even though a country like America has put a bounty on him but they cannot arrest him to please anyone.
