MEA on Sushma Swaraj's Myanmar visit

New Delhi, Aug 06 (ANI): As part of the Narendra Modi government's neighbourhood outreach, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will be visiting Myanmar from 8th August to 11th August. This will be Sushma's fourth visit to a neighboring country. She will also set the stage for Prime Minister Modi's visit to Myanmar in November this year to attend East Asia Summit/Asean-India Summits.

National Herald Case: HC exempts Sonia and Rahul from appearing in Court till Aug 13

New Delhi, Aug 06 (ANI): Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday said that the High Court has exempted Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi from appearing in the Court till August 13. Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition alleging misappropriation of assets worth Rs 2000 crore of the National Herald newspaper. Swamy had also accused Sonia, Rahul and others of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds by just paying Rs 50 lakh by which Young Indian obtained the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore which the Associate Journal Limited had owed to the Congress party.

Politicos react as Rahul Gandhi says only one man's voice counts in India

New Delhi, Aug 6 (ANI): Politicos on Wednesday reacted over Congress Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi, who on Wednesday slammed Speaker of the lower house of parliament, Sumitra Mahajan, and accused her of partial behaviour towards the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gandhi rushed to the well of the House with his party members and demanded a debate on anti-communal violence bill. He said they were not being allowed to hold a discussion and speak in the parliament. Mahajan had turned down Congress party's request for discussion. As the opposition parties created a ruckus over communal situation in the country, the lower house was adjourned. BJP spokesperson, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, said Rahul was unparliamentarily and showed frustration. Taking a jibe at Rahul, Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Raut, said he had finally woken up. LJP leader, Chirag Paswan, said Rahul must be aware of rules of the parliament and his act showed desperation.

Three militants surrender in Assam

Barpeta, Aug 6 (ANI): Three militants of a separatist group, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), surrendered in Assam. The militants also handed over a cache of arms and ammunition to the police and paramilitary, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Deputy Superintendent of Police of Barpeta Police Station, B C Nath said one AK-56 rifle, one magazine, 17 rounds of ammunition, one 7.6mm pistol and two Chinese grenades were surrendered by the militants. The militants have been identified as Rajani Brahma, Sanjib Basumatari and B. Brahma. Nath informed the police were keeping a tight vigil ahead of Independence Day on August 15.
