Coal scam: SC should look into each block allotment case by case, says Majid Memon

New Delhi, Sept 1 (ANI): Ahead of the hearing on the coal scam in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Majid Memon on Monday said the apex court will have to undertake an exercise of finding out each block allotment case by case. The Supreme Court had earlier declared that all allocations made by the Screening Commission and the government between 1992 and 2009 as illegal and arbitrary. The Supreme Court had deemed more than 200 allocations to be illegal. The Supreme Court had scheduled a hearing on the first of September to decide on those allocations where the mining work has already begun. It may be mentioned that a CAG report on coal block allocation had stated that nearly 150 coalfields were allotted to private and state-run firms without transparency and objectivity between 2005 and 2009. Islamabad, Sep 01 (ANI): Pakistani protesters wielding sticks and throwing stones clashed with police in the centre of Islamabad on Monday after weeks of demonstrations calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif turned violent over the weekend. Despite heavy rain, crowds of protesters tried to break through police lines to push their way to the prime minister's residence. Police responded by firing teargas. Some also broke into the PTV national television's headquarters in Islamabad. A crowd of men stormed into the building after breaking through its gate. Protests led by politician Imran Khan and cleric Tahir ul-Qadri erupted last month and descended into deadly confrontation on Saturday (August 30), with at least three people killed in clashes with police. New Delhi, Sep 01 (ANI): Delhi Additional Commissioner of Police SBS Tyagi on Monday said that they have arrested around 18 people for gambling in a 5-star hotel, Le Meridian of Delhi. Tyagi said that 2 people had booked the suite and the rest 16 who were guests were not checked for their identity by the hotel authorities. He further said that this was a security lapse from the part of the hotel and that actions can be taken against them for the same. Vadodara, Sep 01 (ANI): A group of devotees in Gujarat prepared a gigantic dumpling shaped sweet, Modak, on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day popular celebration during which it is believed that Lord Ganesha bestows his presence on earth for all his devotees. The group had initiated to create the lord's favourite sweet weighing 800 kilograms for the people of Vadodora city. The sweet was made into five layers each consisting of a different ingredient. The organiser of the sweet making event, Ankur said that a team of seven to eight people prepared the biggest sweet in around 36 hours. At least 4 killed and 12 injured in Noida road accident

Noida, Sep 01 (ANI): Four employee of Motherson company, a private firm based in Noida were killed and over 12 injured when a bus carrying them collided with a truck in Sector 71 of Noida on Monday. The injured were immediately rushed to the nearest hospitals. Doctor said that a few are serious while others can be released on an immediate basis. The accident took place early in the morning when the victims were on their way to the Motherson company. One of the injured said that the truck collided straight on to the bus and that both the drivers didn’t pay attention.
