Politicians clamour for Nihal Chand's resignation

New Delhi, June 18 (ANI): Political leaders across parties have slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for failing to take any action against Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Nihal Chand, who is an accused in a rape case of a married woman. The court in Jaipur, Rajasthan had summoned Chand and 17 others after a 20-year-old woman filed a complaint accusing her husband and his friends, including the minister, in a sexual assault case. Meanwhile, the woman has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack Chand. She claims she is receiving threats and that she was promised a job in return for withdrawing the case. Jun 18, 2014

Another candidate dies in Mumbai police recruitment drive, BJP demands probe

Mumbai, June 18 (ANI): Another candidate died on Wednesday in the Mumbai police recruitment drive which had attracted thousands of aspirants from across the state. At least five candidates have died till now in the drive due to tough training and poor living conditions. Twenty four year old candidate, Gahininath Latpate, passed away in Mulund's Platinum hospital, where he was admitted after falling ill during training. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya questioned the carelessness behind the unfortunate deaths. The candidates said they have to put up with lack of proper lodging and facilities. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reshuffles UP Cabinet, politicos react

Lucknow, June 18 (ANI): After Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav met all ministers of his government and directed them to shape up or ship out, government ordered late night reshuffle of key cabinet portfolios on Tuesday. In the first major post-LS poll decision that affects SP ministers, the government downgraded many ministers and promoted some. At least 12 portfolios have changed hands, and prominent among them are Balram Yadav, who has been divested of the charge of Panchayati Raj and appointed Minister for Prisons. Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary was made Minister for Political Pensions. He was earlier Minister for Prisons. Meanwhile, reacting over this, Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that mere reshuffling will not work, the ministers appointed should be allowed to do work. Meanwhile, the BJP targeted Akhilesh over this and said that the CM changed portfolios of ministers because they were not performing well but Akhilesh should introspect himself also because the ministries under him are also not doing well. Encephalitis spreading in Bihar, at least 92 dead

New Delhi, June 18 (ANI): Situation in Bihar is turning critical with the spreading of Encephalitis that took at least 92 lives till Wednesday. BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the State government should take immediate steps to curb the problem and save people from catching this disease. He added that the Centre is ready to provide every possible help to State. Yashwant Sinha granted bail by Jharkhand court

Hazaribagh, June 18 (ANI): Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday was granted bail by a Jharkhand court, days after he was arrested for leading a demonstration against the poor power conditions in the state. He was arrested on June 2 and was sent to judicial custody after he refused to furnish a bail bond. Sinha applied for bail, a day after senior BJP leader LK Advani on Tuesday met him in Hazaribagh jail. After meeting Sinha, Advani had felt the latter should play a bigger role in the state. As many as 300 workers were taken into custody along with Sinha for allegedly assaulting Jharkhand State Electricity Board official over a power crisis issue in the state. Jun 18, 2014
