BSE closes points 120.55 up on September 3

New Delhi, Sept 3 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 120.55 points up to stand at 27,139.94. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 31.55 points up to stand at 8,114.60. OBEROI REALTY LTD. and EICHER MOTORS LTD. were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 15.24% and 8.46% along with GODREJ CONSUMER PRODUCTS LTD. and CASTROL INDIA LTD. with an increase of 7.33% and 5.88% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include JAIPRAKASH ASSOCIATES LTD. and NATIONALUM with a decrease of 3.07% and 3.06% along with JSW STEEL and JPPOWER with a decrease of 2.44% and 2.37% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 118.40 points at 17,670.08 while the banking sector is down 22.93 points at 18,430.37 and the reality sector is up 38.39 points at 1,826.03. The Indian currency is up 0.33% at Rs 60.48 per dollar.

Birthplace of renowned poet in Varanasi to be first E village

Varanasi, Sep 3 (ANI): As a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to develop smart cities in the country, a village of renowned Hindi poet, Munshi Premchand, which comes under Modi’s constituency of Varanasi, is set to develop as the first smart village. Lamhi village in Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh will be equipped with all facilities and villagers will no longer have to visit other districts or cities for any administrative-related work. Data of each household will be collected and services would be just one step away. District Magistrate, Pranjal Yadav, said everything would be computerized and any application will be filled in the village itself. Data will be collected based on 36 points, including land, personal, income and others. A unique account number will be generated, which will be given to the villagers. On providing the unique account number, all the data of the person will be available. This will help villagers to avail facilities in their area only.

Three day Indo Bangladesh secretary level talks in Dhaka on cross border crime

Dhaka, Sep 3 (ANI): A team of Indian delegates led by Home Secretary, Anil Goswami, headed to Dhaka to attend the 15th Bangladesh-India Home Secretary-level talks on cross-border crimes and border management. Senior Secretary of Home Ministry, Mozammel Haque Khan, led the Bangladesh delegation. The two countries are expected to discuss issues on border crimes, border management, land boundary agreement, counter-terror initiatives and reopening of immigration points, besides reviewing progress and implementation of existing protocols and agreements. A Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral co-operation for prevention of human trafficking and rescue and rehabilitation of victims is most likely to be signed. The last round of talks was held in New Delhi in June, 2013.

Politicos react to reports of CBI director associated with various scam accused

New Delhi, Sep 03 (ANI): Political leaders on Wednesday reacted to reports of CBI Director Ranjit Sinha being associated with people accused in various scams including 2G, Coalgate and Meat export. NCP leader Majid Memon said that law will take its course in deciding the charges against Sinha. SP leader Gaurav Bhatia said that Sinha had been related to various accused earlier too. JD (U) Chief Sharad Yadav said that his party also received information regarding Sinha’s contacts with crime accused people. Girl found dead after she defied local TMC leaders in Jalpaiguri, women activists condemn

New Delhi, Sept 03 (ANI): Women activists on Wednesday condemned the killing of a teenage girl in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. A day after she openly challenged the verdict of a village kangaroo court chaired by a local Trinamool Congress leader, the naked body of a teenage girl was found near the railway tracks in Jalpaiguri. Her father has accused local TMC leaders and supporters of raping and murdering her. The girl, went missing immediately after the meeting ended late on Monday night. She had accompanied her father to a 'salishi' or meeting called by Namita Roy, the TMC councillor of the municipality. Two persons have been detained in this connection and the body has been sent for postmortem.

Ganga cleaning project: SC raps centre, asks it to file fresh affidavit

New Delhi, Sept 03 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction with the Narendra Modi government affidavit on its effort to clean river Ganga. The court asked the government to come with a time bound plan and realistically achievable plan. The court has said that the government affidavit was too comprehensive and bureaucratic. The court has asked the government to come with a stage wise plan to clean the holy river. The Apex court even offered to help the government. The Court also said that the Centre's action plan may not help clean the river Ganga "even after 200 years".

Truck accident in Kanpur kills 10, injures two

Kanpur, Sep 3 (ANI): Ten people died and two critically injured when a speeding truck overturned near a construction site in the wee hours of Wednesday in Kanpur. The victims who were construction workers were sleeping on the road in a slum area in Kanpur city when the truck lost balance as the wheels got stuck in a manhole and overturned upon them. Superintendent of Kanpur Police, Prabhakran, investigating into the accident confirmed that the mishap claimed ten lives and assured further probe into the incident. The bodies were recovered from under the sand. According to media reports, the truck driver fled after the accident.
