Dalai Lama denied visa to South Africa, Tibetan leaders-in-exile condemn incident

Dharamshala, Sep 06 (ANI): Tibetans-in-exile living in Dharamsala town of Himachal Pradesh react to South Africa's decision to deny a visa to their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, for the third time in five years. The Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in India and is at loggerheads with China over Tibet, had been hoping to join a Nobel peace conference in Cape Town next month. Lama had reportedly withdrew his application after being told it would be unsuccessful. Penpa Tsering, speaker of Tibetan parliament in-exile said that it was unfortunate that the South African government denied visa to Dalai Lama who is an international messenger of peace. The South African foreign ministry confirmed that its High Commission in New Delhi had received the visa application but denied it had been rejected and said that it was being subjected to "normal due process".

Rescuers recover at least 50 bodies in Naushera bus accident case

Rajouri, Sep 06 (ANI): Rescuers recovered bodies of at least 50 people from an ill fated bus ferrying members of wedding party that was washed away by flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir. The accident happened in the Laam area of Naushera sector along the Line of Control on Thursday. According to official around 50 people were on-board the bus at the time of accident. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the northern region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Heavy rain is expected to continue.

At least 100 people killed due to flash floods in JandK: Omar Abdullah

Rajouri/ Srinagar/ Kathua/ Sopore, Sep 06 (ANI): Nearly 100 people were killed due to floods in Kashmir, said state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as all the rivers have been flowing above the danger mark due to incessant rains. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the Himalayan region after two days of heavy rain that hit Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. The police and army have begun rescue operations as floods, triggered by heavy rains, washed away bridges and houses and marooned people. Abdullah said the major challenge was to rehabilitate flood hit victims. Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting in New Delhi to review the flood situation and has dispatched members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist the state government. Singh cancelled trip to the region due to the bad weather.

Assam, Sep 06 (ANI): Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar took stock of animal poaching in Kaziranga National Park in Assam and said that strict action is needed to save the wildlife. Javadekar arrived in Assam for a two-day visit where he observed the measures to conserve the wildlife, existing infrastructure besides discussing about the rapid shrinking forest cover in the northeast region. Later, while addressing a news conference, Javadekar said that the ministry will speed up CBI probe over the issue and that they had zero tolerance over the same. Javadekar also said that the ministry will form special rhino protection force consisting of locals to protest the rare species.

Kanpur, Sep 06 (ANI): A 20-year-old mechanical engineering student at Government Polytechnic College in Kanpur committed suicide in his hostel room after allegedly being ragged and beaten up by his seniors. The student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room by his roommate. The deceased student's brother, Pradeep Vishwakarma said that this certainly is a case of ragging and blamed the college authorities for the same. Meanwhile, a co-student said that the deceased was beaten by the senior and that he didn't attend the class for two days in their fear. The police and forensic team have started investigation into the case. An FIR has been filed against two senior students- Karan and Vijay- as well as other unidentified students after a complaint was filed by the brother of the deceased. Principal FR Khan has set up a committee of 7 teachers to probe the incident.

Central govt deploys additional forces in strife-torn Manipur

Imphal, Sep 06 (ANI): NDA government deployed additional forces in strife torn northeastern Manipur state in wake of the road blockade called by a Naga group. Home Ministry rushed additional forces to assist the local administration and a top official to take stock of the rising tension. The additional paramilitary forces were sent to Manipur to be deployed along the national and state highways to ensure law and order in the state. Earlier, Rajnath Singh had reviewed the situation with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and discussed preventive measures to ameliorate hardship of the people of Manipur. Abbott meets Modi, India and Australia seal nuclear deal

New Delhi, Sep 06 (ANI): Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Friday met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi and returned two antique statues ahead of delegation-level talks. In an apparent bid to remove an irritant between the two nations, Abbott handed over to Modi a statue of Lord Shiva, worth $5 million in the international market, that was illegally trafficked and a stone statue that had been displayed in an Australian gallery. Abbott also promised that Australia would never act as receiver of stolen goods. Later, Abbott sealed a civil nuclear deal to sell uranium to India in New Delhi, offering to ramp up supplies of energy to help the emerging Asian giant overcome chronic shortages. Assam Nagaland border calm after centre intervenes

Assam, Sept 06 (ANI): There have been no fresh incidents of violence and curfew has been relaxed in Golaghat district. Security continues to remain tight in the border area, with round the clock patrolling and army flag march. Meanwhile, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland have agreed to resolve the long pending border issues by setting up a joint mechanism, following a meeting with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in Guwahati. Both the state governments have assured that they will be working together to resolve the issue and restore peace in the disputed border area. The two sides have agreed to meet frequently and work jointly to defuse the tension and build confidence among the people living along the border. Enquiry committees have been constituted to look into the incident and 15 people have been apprehended in Nagaland. Meanwhile, the Union Minister has appealed the agitators not to resort to economic blockade that causes inconvenience to the people.
