Earth Sciences Minister makes mandatory for scientists to teach in schools

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): Earth Sciences Minister, Jitendra Singh, on Tuesday, said that over 5,000 highly accomplished scientists, working with various departments under Science and Technology Ministry would devote time to impart education to students of various schools and colleges in the country. Addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Singh said the concept was new for the country. Singh added that scientists will have to teach for 12 hours and evaluation of their teaching skills will be done after every three years. India's education ministry will collaborate with concerned departments in this endeavour. Meanwhile, Singh said recently launched indigenously built Oceanographic Research Vessel was a success and post sea trials, the vessel sailed for its first oceanographic research cruise from southern Visakhapatnam city.

Lack of Infrastructural development in Gilgit Baltistan

Gilgit Baltistan, Sep 09, 2014:- People of Gilgit Baltistan are protesting against Pakistan's unsuccessful plan towards region's infrastructural development. The locals here are against the puppet government who charge for extra taxes from the locals of the region. People here maintain that the government is unable to tackle the problem. For them its being ages that the puppet government have been taking any action. Due to which they are now on roads protesting and demanding for the rights, which they deserve to be given through basic facilities. Gilgit Baltistan is one of the most neglected and backward regions under Pakistan's command.

SC reserves order on cancellation of coal blocks

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved order on cancellation of coal blocks. However, it has not announced a date for when it will declare its judgement in the case. The Petitioner said that it is a good judgement that SC has reserved the order in coal allocation case. However the lawyer for Coal Companies said that they demand that SC should hear them and not cancel allocations of those who are found to be innocent. Companies who were allocated coal blocks also pleaded with the SC not to cancel allocations without hearing them.

Advanced technology to revive Japan's farming sector

Tokyo, Sep 09 (ANI): An agricultural plantation project in Hokkaido, founded by JFE Engineering Corporation, has two big greenhouses, covering a total area of 1.5 hectares. In addition to Mesclun greens and tomatoes, they grow more varieties of vegetables and fruits. The greenhouses, which are totally controlled by advanced cultivation control system, use the "Gas engine tri-generation system". It is a newly invented technology by JFE Engineering Corporation. The engine generates electricity, heat and CO2 from natural gas. Exhaust gas is filtered and pure CO2 is made and sent to houses though pipes and ejected by blast machine. The machine also blows warm air. Hot water is stocked in tanks and sent though pipes to heat up plant as needed.

Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena threatens to oppose Pakistani lifestyle exhibition in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena leader Jai Bhagwan on Tuesday announced to oppose Pakistani lifestyle exhibition in New Delhi. Apart from Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena, other Hindu groups such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have written to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi to call off the event named 'Alishan Pakistan'. The four-day event will take place from September 11-14 with over 150 exhibitors displaying their products at Pragati Maidan. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party Leader Naresh Agarwal dismissed the protest threat.

BSE closes points 54.53 down on September 9

New Delhi, Sept 9 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 54.53 points down to stand at 27,265.32. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 20.95 points down to stand at 8,152.95. ASHOK LEYLAND LTD. and NHPC were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 5.44% and 5.14% along with IDEA and BHUSAN STEEL with an increase of 5.05% and 5.00% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include SOBHA and UNITECH with a decrease of 3.99% and 3.21% along with TORNT POWER and NATIONALUM with a decrease of 3.12% and 2.62% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 64.91 points at 17,776.72 while the banking sector is down 39.20 points at 18,511.09 and the reality sector is down 19.73 points at 1,759.28. The Indian currency is down 0.46% at Rs 60.57 per dollar.

Maharashtra Congress dispatch relief materials to flood hit JandK

Mumbai, Sep 09 (ANI): Congress party in Maharashtra, on Tuesday extended help to victims in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir and dispatched relief materials. Indian-administered Kashmir is experiencing worst flooding in 60 years, killing at least 175 and inundating homes, military bases and hospitals in region's main city Srinagar as the Jhelum river overflowed its banks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it as a national disaster and announced 1000 crore rupees in disaster relief payments, as well as compensation to victims and their relatives. On Tuesday, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee dispatched rubber boats to help rescue operations in the valley. Meanwhile, at least 38 people were feared dead after a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, submerged an entire village in Udhampur district in Kashmir.

New Delhi, Sep 09 (ANI): German ambassador to India Michael Steiner on Tuesday took a rice bucket challenge at a slum area of New Delhi. Modifying the popular ice bucket challenge, Steiner took the rice bucket challenge wherein he distributed buckets of rice to poor people and said that poorness is not god gifted and is totally changeable. He talked with the residents of the slum while distributing rice to them and said that this was much needed and valuable than the ice bucket challenge. Steiner also said that the German Embassy is partners with a hospital in Baramulla and announced to send Rs 25 lakh for basic healthcare to flood hit Kashmir.

MDMK stage protest over Sri Lankan President's participation in UN General Assembly

Chennai, Sep 09 (ANI): Members of MDMK on Tuesday took to streets in Tamil Nadu, against participation of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in UN General Assembly on September 25. Accusations of atrocities have been rife since the end in May 2009 of conflict between ethnic Tamil separatist rebels and Sri Lankan government forces that killed more than 100,000 people. Tens of thousands are unaccounted for. On Tuesday, MDMK chief Vaiko led the protest in Chennai and said Rajapaksa had insulted the dignity of the United Nations. In May, the Sri Lankan unit of Transparency International said the defense ministry had ordered the cancellation of a course on investigative journalism for Tamil reporters. Mob protests forced the cancellation of a second course in June.

Police claim to arrest two foreign nationals staying illegally in Dharamshala

Dharamshala, Sep 09 (ANI): The local police claimed to have arrested two foreigners- one Russian and another Israeli- who have been staying illegally in the north Indian foothill town of Dharamsala. The police conducted a drive against foreigners staying illegally in Dharamshala and adjoining areas as a routine check and arrested another national, an Israeli, Gabrial Damian Kattan, without any valid documents at Dharamkot village near Mcleodganj town. Kattan came to India in 1999 and has been staying at different places secretly since then. He was also found in possession of two passports, one Argentinean passport expired in the year 2007 while the Israeli passport he possessed expired in 2012. The two accused have been booked under Foreigners Act, 1946 and sent to judicial custody till September 18 by a local court on Monday.
