Health Ministers of S East Asian countries meet in Dhaka to focus on vector borne diseases

Dhaka, Sep 10 (ANI): The Health Ministers of 11 South East Asian countries met in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka for a four-day meeting on various health issues pertaining to the region with special focus on vector-borne diseases. The 32nd meeting of the Ministers of Health of World Health Organisation South-East Asia Region (WHO-SEAR) and the 67th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia started on Wednesday. Margaret Chan, Director General of World Health Organization (WHO) said that the meeting was special as the focus this year was on vector-borne diseases. Meanwhile, India's Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, addressing the gathering said that he was happy that traditional medicine was being discussed by the committee. He also said that he was happy that an agreement was being signed between India and Bangladesh in this field. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hailed the initiatives taken by the regional powers to discuss on various health issues and said her government will give all its inputs.

Immense loss in silk production disillusions producers in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, Sep 10 (ANI): Gorakhpur city in Uttar Pradesh witnessed the gradual phasing out of the silk fabric industry as traders failed to get the market price for their products. The once buzzing silk park of Gorakhpur bears a dilapidated look these days. Those involved in the production of these cocoons say that people are gradually losing interest in their work as the workers are not getting their due. Heavy rain damages apple crop in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Sep 10 (ANI): Heavy rains and storm for the last three days damaged apple crop worth rupees100 crore in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains lashed several areas of the state in the last few days and as per preliminary assessment, farmers have lost nearly 80 percent crops in Shimla district. Farmers expected assistance and relief from the government, as main roads and transport links have also been damaged due to the rains. India’s top apple growing state of Himachal Pradesh is likely to produce 500-540 million kilograms of the fruit this year as compared to 700 million kilograms last year. Apple crop occupies over 50% fruit growing area of the state. The apple business is considered as the lifeline for apple growers in many districts.
