New Delhi, Sept 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched his 'Make in India' programme ahead of his maiden visit to the US. The campaign would roll out the red carpet to investors through a string of measures including easier norms and rules aimed at transforming India into a manufacturing hub. Talking about FDI, Modi said that for Indian citizens FDI is a responsibility and for rest of the world it is an opportunity. He also added that FDI in India should stand for ‘First Develop India’.

Navratri begins with religious fervour in India

Bhopal /New Delhi/Lucknow, Ayodhya /Jammu, Sept 25 (ANI): Devotees across India thronged the temples on the first day of Navratri when Hindus worship mother goddess Durga in all her manifestations. Navratri, derived from the ancient Sanskrit words 'nine nights', falls this year from September 25 to October 03. People stood in queues early morning on Thursday as they visited temples to seek the blessings of mother goddess Durga. Devotees celebrate the festival with religious fervour as they pray before the idol of the goddess, sing religious songs and perform aarti while observing fast. During one of the biggest Hindu festival celebrated across India in different forms and names, temples are beautifully decorated with flowers, leaves, petals, lights and the priests ornate idols of goddess Durga with new clothes and jewellery. Meanwhile, a priest at a temple in New Delhi said on the first day of the festival the goddess Durga is worshipped in the form of Shailputri or daughter of king of mountains.

PM Modi launches 'Make in India' campaign

New Delhi, Sept 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched his 'Make in India' programme ahead of his maiden visit to the US. The campaign would roll out the red carpet to investors through a string of measures including easier norms and rules aimed at transforming India into a manufacturing hub. Modi also said that his government has begun to change circumstances that forced Indian businessmen to leave the country. The Make in India programme, first mooted by the PM in his Independence Day speech last month, will lay emphasis on 25 sectors with focus on job creation and skill enhancement.

Govt committed to make India manufacturing hub: Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): During 'Make in India' launch event on Thursday in New Delhi, Commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the government has been able to change perception of India in last few months. She said that the government is committed to make India a manufacturing hub. She also said that validity on industrial licences will be extended to 3 years and the government is now amending number of labour laws. Sitharaman further added that said a series of measures have been taken on ease of doing business and the government is fully commited to de-licensing, deregulating and taking India to high growth trajectory.

Mukesh Ambani vows to create 125,000 new jobs at 'Make In India' launch

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday while speaking at the launch of the 'Make in India' Campaign pledged to generate 125, 000 new jobs in the next 12 to 15 months. Speaking about the campaign, Ambani said that it is a historic day and the Reliance Industries commits itself to the 'Make in India' campaign. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ambani said that India is blessed to have a PM who does what he dreams.

Obama vows at UN to dismantle ISIS 'network of death'

United Nations, Sept 25 (ANI): US President Barack Obama vowed at the United Nations to keep up the military pressure on Islamic State militants and urged those who have joined the extremist group in Iraq and Syria to "leave the battlefield while they can."Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Obama said Islamic State must be destroyed and issued a global call for nations to come together to join a US-led coalition. Before he spoke, US-led airstrikes for the third time this week pounded Islamic State targets in Syria and Iraq. He added that the United States does not intend to occupy any countries, but "will support Iraqis and Syrians fighting to reclaim their communities." He referred to Islamic State by the acronym ISIL.

Indian Americans in New York optimistic about PM Modi's visit

New York, Sept 25 (ANI): Indian Americans are upbeat about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden visit to New York as he will take the stage in Madison Square Garden before a crowd forecast to total more than 18,000 people. Modi will draw perhaps the largest crowd ever by a foreign leader on U.S. soil as thousands more are expected to pack New York's Times Square to watch his address in Hindi on big screens as well as smaller viewing parties around the country and on TV in India. The Indian diaspora hopes this visit by a leader who was until recently barred from the United States will signify India's importance not only on these shores but in the wider world too.

SAARC culture ministers' meet in New Delhi to chart out 2014-17 action plan

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): India hosted the third meeting of the SAARC Culture Ministers to chart a roadmap for cultural ties in the region for 2014-17, which aims at promoting multilateral cooperation in the field of cultural relations by South Asia in the backdrop of a common heritage linking the eight- member grouping. Highlight of the meeting was setting up of a Delhi Declaration to chart a roadmap for cultural ties in the region for 2014-17. The major activities envisaged in the agenda include strengthening of cultural institutions in member-countries, cultural festivals in the region, preservation and conservation practices and promoting literacy and reading habits. Confirmations have been received that the Culture Ministers of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives and India would participate in the deliberations. Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan would be represented by Senior Officials.

Katra, Sep 25 (ANI): Inflow of tourists has drastically come down in the last few weeks due to the devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir, business and lives of residents have been hit amid creating fear in the minds of devotees planning to take up the pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Vaishno Devi during busy festival season. The number of pilgrims to Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has waned during the peak festive season in the flooded valley. Floods have shattered all hopes of small as well as big businessmen. The dwindling number of pilgrims has affected small businessmen in the town of Katra from where the pilgrims begin mounting towards the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Farmers fret over damaged crops, stagnant water in flood-hit Kashmir

Ganderbal, Sep 25 (ANI): Farmers remained the worst hit due to massive floods in Jammu and Kashmir as stagnant water in their agricultural fields damaged crops and affected the yield. Flood fury resulted in huge losses to life, property and economy of Kashmir. The worst flooding in the valley in 60 years submerged villages and ruined crops. The farmer added that the produce from damaged crops was only for consumption for three months as large chunks of land were washed away.

Cabinet gives nod to clean India mission

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave nod to clean India mission, 'Swacch Bharat'. Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, told reporters that number of plans were piloted during the Cabinet meet. The Programme consists of components for providing individual household, community and public toilets and municipal solid waste management in all 4041 statutory towns. The Cabinet also approved setting up of Clean Ganga Fund with voluntary contributions citizens, NRIs and Person of Indian Origin toward the conservation of the river Ganga. This initiative would supplement Namami Ganga Programme. The Cabinet also approved restructuring of the "Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan" (NBA) into "Swachh Bharat" Mission (rural) by a perfect synergy for clean Ganga (Ganges).

Kashmiri apples start flowing into market post trade slump due to floods

Poonch /Shimla, Sept 25 (ANI): Apple trade in Jammu and Kashmir, which had hit a slump during the floods, restarted after the reconstruction of a major road which had been left damaged because of the heavy rainfall. The arterial Mughal Road in Kashmir, which connects the mountainous valley with the foothills of the state, was rendered inaccessible following landslides caused by the recent heavy rainfall but has now been reconstructed and thrown open to traffic. The worst flooding in over a century had hampered the trade of Kashmiri apple, which is known world over for its taste and juice. Kashmiri apples, whose price generally wavers around rupees 100 per kilogram, are now being sold for rupees 20 per kilogram. However, the slump in the Kashmiri apple trade gave a boost to the apples of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, which are a major competitor for the Kashmiri ones.
