NSG defuses explosives found in Burdwan district of West Bengal

Burdwan, Oct 17 (ANI): Commandos of National Security Guard (NSG) defused over 40 hand grenades and bombs that were found in Burdwan district of West Bengal on Friday. A joint team of the NSG and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday recovered the ammunition in large quantities from a house in the district. Apart from grenades, the team recovered five socket bombs also from the house of one Rizwan Sheikh. This recovery comes after two suspected militants were killed and another was injured in the explosion which occurred on October 02 at a house in Khagragarh area of the district. The involvement of militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami are being suspected in the blast. Meanwhile, in another such incident, around 100 crude bombs were detected and diffused in Kaliachak block of Malda by CID Bomb Squad members. Oct 17, 2014

India successfully test fires nuclear cruise missile 'Nirbhay'

New Delhi/ Chandipur, Oct 17 (ANI): India on Friday successfully test fired the indigenously developed nuclear capable sub-sonic cruise missile 'Nirbhay' at the Integrated Missile Test Range near Balasore in Odisha. Proving a host of technologies and bridging the critical gap in the country's arsenal, the missile was test fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur for a distance of about 1,000 km. Cruise missile 'Nirbhay' can strike targets more than 700 kms away. This was the second test firing attempt. The missile had failed in its debut attempt which was made last year. Security Expert US Rathore said that the test fire of the cruise missile 'Nirbhay' was very important for India. New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 109.19 points up to stand at 26,108.53. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 31.50 points up to stand at 7,779.70. EMAMI LTD and ANDHRA BANK were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.96% and 6.04% along with Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd and NCC with an increase of 5.71% and 5.29% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include CMC and ATUL with a decrease of 15.07% and 11.02% along with HCLTECH and TCS with a decrease of 9.06% and 8.93% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 120.30 points at 17,021.25 while the banking sector is up 437.47 points at 18,240.22 and the reality sector is up 13.60 points at 1,429.64.The Indian currency is up 0.49% at Rs 61.53 per dollar. Dhaka, Oct 17 (ANI): Bangladeshi human rights activist and journalist Shahriar Kabir said that India is turning into a safe haven for militant groups, especially Jamaat-e-Islami. Kabir was speaking at a seminar on international terrorism organised by the Forum for Secular Bangladesh and Trail of the War Criminals in Dhaka. The speakers expressed concern about the recent militancy activities by Jamaat-e-Islami in India with reference to the bomb blast in Burdwan district in West Bengal during the festival of Durga Puja on October 02. The speakers urged that government of India and Bangladesh should take strict actions to prevent such militancy activities in both the nations and they also rooted for a task force to be made along with other regional countries of South Asia. Poonch, Oct 17 (ANI): With cross-border shelling by Pakistan continuing unabated, the cross-LoC (Line of Control) trade between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) is likely to be affected in the coming days. The custodian of cross-LoC trade at Chakan Da Bagh zero point, Mohammad Bashir Lone, said that the Line of Control is a major trade point between both the nations and there has not been direct effect upon trade in Poonch district till now. Products like red chili, cumin, tamarind, bananas, mango, dry dates and dry fruits are exchanged between the two counties. Pak troops continue ceasefire violation in Poonch; politicos react

Hamirpur Sector, Oct 17 (ANI): Pakistan troops resorted to small arms fire in the Hamirpur Sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District late last night. According to reports, the firing commenced at 9 p.m. and lasted till 10.30 p.m. There was retaliation from the Indian side, the reports added. According to a health services officer, paramedical staff have been put on high alert to supply both medicines and ambulances to any injured security personnel during the cross-LoC firing.
