Breach in embankment submerges villages in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, Aug 28 (ANI): Breach of embankment of river Kalyani submerged several villages in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal forcing people to leave for safer places as flood water streamed through hearth and home. The incessant rainfall and flood resulted in loss of property in the villages of Natabari, Chilakhana and Bhuchumari. The overflow of river water also damaged acres of farmland. Similar conditions prevailed in Siliguri town in Darjeeling district of the state which received 150mm rainfall on August 26 which triggered a flood-like situation disrupting normal life. Srinagar, Aug 28 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution on Indo-Pak talks which urges the Central government to resume its talks with the neighbouring nation. The resolution passed unanimously by the Legislative Council via a voice vote says the state government must urge the union government to resume Indo-Pak dialogue to maintain peace in region, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference leader Devender Singh Rana said that the resolution has been passed unanimously and urges government to take effective steps to resolve violations on LoC, besides taking steps to ensure rehabilitation of victims of LoC firing. Local police recover landmine and rifle in Lalgarh

Lalgarh, Aug 28 (ANI): Local police in West Bengal recovered a landmine along with a rifle near Lalgarh village in west Midnapur district. Police officials said that it was not clear how the mine had got there. The landmine which was placed near a canal leading to Lalgarh was later defused. The village caught media attention in November 2008 when guerilla Maoists launched an attack on police forces and cadres of the political party, Communist Party of India -Marxist (CPI-M). "There was rape earlier, there is rape today. As long as the Earth exists, there will be rape," said the Trinamool legislator Deepak Haldar.
