PM Modi announces compensation to Cyclone Hudhud victims, takes aerial survey of affected areas in A

Vizag, Oct 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting to take stock of situation in Andhra Pradesh after the Cyclone Hudhud hit the state. PM Modi lauded the meteorological department for making efficient use of technology in predicting the intensity of the cyclone and thereby mineralizing the effect of the same. He condoled the death of people and announced compensation for the victims. He said that ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured from the PM relief fund. PM also assured all help from the central government to the state governments. Later, the prime minister also took aerial survey of the affected areas in Andhra Pradesh.

Rains lash northern India after Cyclone Hudhud moved inland

Lucknow, Oct 14 (ANI): Rains lashed northern India after cyclone Hudhud battered country's eastern coastline and moved inland turning into a weakened storm. After-effects of cyclone Hudhud have been felt in Uttar Pradesh as it has been receiving heavy rainfall in some parts. According to weather office, Hudhud has weakened into a deep depression but is expected to dump heavy rains in northern and northeastern India and, eventually, snow when it reaches the Himalayan Mountains.

All five accused in Dhaula Kuan gangrape case held guilty by Delhi session court

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): A Delhi Session Court on Tuesday convicted all five accused in 2010 abduction and gangrape case in Dhaula Kuan. Lawyer in the case said that the court has held guilty all the accused and that the quantum of punishment will be announced on 17th October. Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat had earlier deferred the verdict saying the order was not prepared. Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Shahid alias Chhota Billi, Iqbal alias Bada Billi and Kamruddin were being tried for the abduction and gangrape of a 30-year-old call centre executive in Dhaula Kuan area of south Delhi.

PM Modi reaches Visakhapatnam to review situation after cyclone Hudhud

Visakhapatnam, Oct 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday arrived at the port city of Visakhapatnam to review the situation after cyclone Hudhud hit the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Modi was accompanied by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. The PM will also be conducting an aerial survey of the cyclone affected areas in both the states. Modi has instructed top officials to ensure that there is no bottleneck in relief and rescue work in the cyclone affected areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. He also asked them to continue to work closely with the affected states.

Canada foreign minister meets Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday and met his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj for a discussion on Canada-India relations to strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two countries. Baird also commemorated the International Day of the Girl Child at a school in the national capital. India and Canada were expected to discuss on the bilateral issues at the meeting, including matters related to security, defence, counter-terrorism, space and nuclear cooperation. Baird, who is on a five-day visit to India, is accompanied by Canadian International Trade Minister Ed Fast and National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay among others. Reportedly, the two sides wish to see bilateral trade reach higher peaks by 2015.

CRPF conducts community policing in red corridor of Jharkhand to create awareness

Latehar, Oct 14 (ANI): India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out community policing in the red corridors of Jharkhand in order to create awareness among ignorant villagers about the need to fight the Maoists. As part of campaign against them, CRPF have been setting up camps for the past 80 days in different areas of the red corridor to minimise the influence of Maoists. Assistant Commandant of CRPF, AK Mishra said that community policing was conducted in the backward areas in order to make contact with the people living there. The CRPF officials conducted a civic action in Opag village of Latehar district by distributing bags, notebooks and other items to school children and utensils to the villagers.

PM Modi to conduct aerial survey of cyclone Hudhud hit areas in AP

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the cyclone Hudhud affected areas of Andhra Pradesh in the afternoon on Tuesday, where he will undertake an aerial survey of the worst affected Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. He has instructed top officials to ensure that there is no bottleneck in relief and rescue work in the cyclone affected areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. He also asked them to continue to work closely with the affected states. Prime Minister Modi earlier emphasized the need to document learnings from this cyclone and to put in place more precise drills and disaster management plans, especially in areas which are prone to such disasters.
