CPI (M) to protest over squeezing of MGNREGA

Patna, Nov 16 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI (M), on Sunday said that it would launch a nationwide protest against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government for squeezing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act MGNREGA, which provides jobs for 50 million households. CPI-M general secretary, Prakash Karat, while addressing a news briefing in Patna, said the scheme was important for the poor. Karat said that MGNREGA benefited India's northeastern state of Tripura but if the funds were cut, 50 percent people would not have any work. Karat informed that all six Left parties of India have come together and decided to go against the BJP over these issues.

Mehboob Beigh decides to quit NC, says party cannot counter BJP

Anantnag, Nov 16 (ANI): In a major setback to the ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, senior party leader Mehboob Beigh on Sunday withdrew his candidature and decided to support main opposition Peoples Democratic Party Patron Mufti Mohammad Syeed. Beigh said that he considers BJP as RSS and that in order to stop such ideologies from coming to the state, he will support Mufti. He also alleged that the NC cannot counter the BJP and thus his decision to join hands with Mufti is for the welfare of the state. He also expressed displeasure on NC for not inviting any leaders from South Kashmir constituency to any parliamentary or board meetings. He added that next government must constitute an enquiry commission for probing the irregularities and wrongdoings of the present government.

Bus collides with truck in Uttar Pradesh, killing 12

Moradabad, Nov 16 (ANI): Twelve people died and four others were injured when a bus carrying 16 passengers collided head on with a truck in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. City superintendent of police Pradeep Gupta said that around 16 passengers were traveling in the bus and they were about to attend a religious event. Road and rail accidents are common in India, where rickety infrastructure and weak law enforcement struggle to cope with a surge in traffic and floods of unlicensed drivers.
