Celebrations kick start as BSF to enter its 50th year in December

New Delhi, Nov 27 (ANI): The Golden Jubilee celebrations of world's largest border guarding force, India's Border Security Force (BSF), kicked off in New Delhi as the paramilitary will enter its 50th year on December 01. BSF was established on December 01, 1965, it is a paramilitary force charged with guarding India's land border during peace time and preventing cross-border crime as it is one of many law enforcement agencies of India. BSF Director General, DK Pathak said that in the last 49 years the security force has grown to a sizeable organisation. The BSF, he further said, will organise seminars, men storming sessions and workshops to make its personnel better prepared and will strengthen its efforts to defend the border population, for it is its support which makes the organisation's work easier. Army says militants trying to disrupt polls in Kashmir

Jammu, Nov 27 (ANI): Indian army's top official said intelligence inputs suggested that militants along the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland were trying to disrupt the ongoing election process in Kashmir. General Officer Commanding 16 Corps Lieutenant General KH Singh said that the activities are being carried on with the sole intention of disturbing the ongoing polls in the state. Singh also said that the army is fully equipped and prepared to deal with any such activities along the international border. The assembly segments going to polls include Kishtwar, Inderwal, Doda, Bhaderwah, Ramban and Banihal in Jammu division; Gurez, Bandipora, Sonawari, Kangan and Ganderbal in Kashmir region and Nobra, Leh, Kargil and Zanskar in Ladakh region. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. People risk their lives crossing the bridge by holding on to the steel ropes of the destroyed bridge. The villagers said that more than three months on, the bridge has not been repaired. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced 5.7 billion rupees in assistance for housing and 1.8 billion rupees to fix six major hospitals in the state that are in poor condition and need immediate federal support.
