Police on alert for upcoming assembly polls in Kashmir

Kathua, Sep 03 (ANI): Police beefed up security to ensure safe and smooth conducting of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior official on Wednesday. While inaugurating a hostel in Kathua district, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajendra Kumar said with strict vigil of security forces, several elections in the past have taken place peacefully. He added that the upcoming assembly elections will be smooth like the parliamentary elections early this year. He also ensured that security forces are equipped enough to check infiltration as well as retaliate to any ceasefire violations along the international border. TESO protests Sri Lankan detention of Indian fishermen

Chennai, Sep 3 (ANI): The Tamil Eelam Supporters Organization (TESO) on Wednesday held a demonstration in Chennai against the detention of fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities. DMK leader MK Stalin, while addressing the gathering of protesters, demanded that the fishermen and their boats held by Sri Lanka should immediately be released. On Tuesday (September 03) morning, nine fishermen were arrested by Lankan naval personnel when they were returning from the Palk Strait.
