Election Commission briefs about voter turnout of first election phase in Jharkhand and J and K

New Delhi, Nov 25 (ANI): The Election Commission on Tuesday briefed about the voter turnout in the first election phase of Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi said that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed voter turnout of nearly 70% which is more than the previous Assembly Polls. He added that no polling booth was boycotted in the entire state. Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said that Jharkhand witnessed 61.92% voter turnout which was likely to increase.

Police tighten security after threats to India-Pakistan bus service

Amritsar, Nov 25 (ANI): Police in Punjab on Tuesday (November 25) heightened the security of bus plying between Amritsar and Lahore after receiving threats of militant attack on the bus. In the wake of an explosion on the Pakistan side of the border, which had killed at least 57 people and injured around 70 on November 02, the Indian security forces have been deployed at the International Bus Terminal-Amritsar for 24 hours vigilance. However, an Indian bus driver of the Amritsar-Lahore bus said the threats do not scare them. During a popular flag-lowering ceremony between the two countries on November 02, a bomber tried to get as close as possible to the border in a possible attempt to cause casualties on the Indian side as well. The suicide bombing took place in a car park on the Pakistani side at least 500 meters from the border with India. No Indian troops were hurt in the attack.

Kathmandu, Nov 25 (ANI): Residents of Nepal are enthusiastic about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country for 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit as Modi is scheduled to arrive in capital Kathmandu later in the day on Tuesday. Leaders from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India and Pakistan meet in Kathmandu for two days for the plenary session from November 26 for the SAARC summit. The last minute preparations for the summit are in full swing in Nepal as the authorities have heightened the security for the two-day event where leaders from eight nations will meet and discuss the core issues of importance. PM Modi arrives in Nepal to attend SAARC Summit

Kathmandu, Nov 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal on Tuesday to attend the 18th SAARC Summit. Modi was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the airport. It would be Modi's second meeting with nearly all the SAARC leaders, except for Afghanistan which has a new president Ashraf Ghani. A likely meeting between Modi and Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the summit has lent added interest to the meeting of the eight-member bloc.
