Mumbai, Nov 02 (ANI): Maharashtra Navanirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday paid a courtesy visit to Maharashtra’s newly elected Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In the short meeting, Thackeray said he raised various issues including increasing the minimum support price of sugarcane and development of tourism industry in the State. He also sought a detailed probe of the grisly murders of three members of a Dalit family in Ahmednagar. Indian Army starts construction of bridge damaged due to floods in Kashmir

Poonch, Nov 02 (ANI): The Indian army started construction of a major connecting bridge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir which was damaged during worst floods in the valley in September. During the floods, several key bridges were damaged and some were washed away leaving hundreds of villages disconnected from several areas. Meanwhile, commanding officer, engineer regiment, Poonch, Major Krishna Prasad said the Sher-e-Kashmir bridge was damaged and work was on to construct a new one. Curfew in Kashmir ahead of Muharram processions

Srinagar, Nov 02 (ANI): The state government in Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday (November 02), imposed curfew in several parts of the region ahead of Muharram processions. Security personnel manned the streets in main city of Srinagar to prevent any mishap. Since 1989, Muharram processions have been banned in Srinagar after a pro-independence revolt started in Kashmir. Half marathon in Visakhapatnam celebrates spirit of people

Visakhapatnam, Nov 02 (ANI): Thousands of people converged in port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday (November 02) and took part in half marathon organised to salute the spirit of people who showed strength during cyclone Hudhud. Cyclone Hudhud had slammed into the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha last month, killing 41 people and tearing down tens of thousands of mud-and-thatch homes. Meanwhile, the half-marathon, organised by the Indian navy, celebrated the courage of people who rose above the storm and returned to normal lives. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Satish Soni, said that the half marathon marked the spirit of Visakhapatnam, known to locals as Vizag. The funds generated from the run will be used for rehabilitation work and a part of it will also go to an orphanage. The marathon was categorized under 20 km run, 10 km run and five km walk. Fire in textile factory in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, Nov 2 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in a textile factory in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh early in the morning on Sunday (November 02). The people living in the vicinity informed the fire department after they saw billows of smoke coming out of the building. No casualty has been reported yet. Two fire tenders reached spot and tried to control the raging inferno in the three-storey building. However, air force personnel had to be called to douse the fire. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. Losses are being estimated to be worth in millions. Meanwhile, local residents blamed the state administration for ill-equipped fire department. Fire safety regulations are lax, rarely implemented and not periodically reviewed in most places across India, which results in the breaking of major fires, resulting in loss of life and material. Hyderabad, Nov 02 (ANI): Doctors in Hyderabad performed India’s first rare fetal heart surgery, to cure a serious obstruction of the blood vessel. The procedure is a crucial feat that will pave the way for cure and prevention of heart diseases. The surgery was performed on the foetus of a 25 year old lady, Sirisha. An ultrasound scan during her pregnancy showed heart defect in the baby (foetus). She also had undergone minor surgical procedure for gynecological problem to prevent abortion. Doctors performed fetal echocardiogram and found major heart defect in the foetus. There was severe obstruction which was resulting in failure of pumping of blood to the rest of the body. The rare surgery was performed by Chief Pediatric Cardiologist, CARE hospitals, Dr K Nageshwar Rao along with a team of 12 specialists. Bangalore Rape Case: Principal, Director of school arrested

Bangalore, Nov 02 (ANI): Police arrested the principal and one of the directors of school in Bangalore, over alleged rape of a six-year-old child. A case of negligence was also filed against the institution for not following the guidelines issued for children safety. The child was allegedly raped twice by a school teacher on October 28 and October 29 at the private school in the city. Additional Commissioner of Police for law and order, Alok Kumar said the principal Vaijayanthi and director Pramod Arya were arrested under two sections of the Indian Penal Code and one section under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). He added that both the accused have been booked under Section 21 of the POCSO Act for not informing the police after learning about the incident.
