BJP, AAP hopes for victory in Delhi Cantonment Board elections

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): BJP and AAP on Sunday hoped for victory as polling at Delhi Cantonment Board elections ended. A total of 64 candidates are in fray for eight seats across Delhi Cantonment with Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) being the major political parties contesting the elections. The counting of votes will be held on January 12. While Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said that AAP has been making false claims and that BJP will emerge victorious, AAP leader alleged that the ruling party is trying to divert votes.

Joining hands with all democracies in world against terrorism: France Envoy

Gandhinagar, Jan 11 (ANI): French Ambassador to India Francois Richier on Sunday said that the nation is joining hands with all the democracies in the world against terrorism. Talking about the recent attacks in Paris, Richier said that it is not only a day of grief and mourning but of determination. He also thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending support. Further, the French envoy also said that this is not the first time that media was attacked and that the nation is determined to fight against such outfits. He said that France is participating in actions against Al- Qaeda and that the forces are deployed both in Northern Africa and Iraq.

Extreme weather conditions cripple normal life, ruin crops in northern India

New Delhi/Nainital, Jan 11 (ANI): Severe winter has crippled normal life in northern India. Several cities are witnessing poor visibility due to dense fog, resulting in delayed train traffic. Farmers too are bearing the brunt as crops get ruined in the extreme weather conditions. While trains run late, passengers in New Delhi faced inconvenience. Meanwhile, farmers in Haldwani region of Uttarakhand suffer losses worth millions as the extreme weather conditions ruined their crops. Located in the tropics, most of India witnesses a very hot summer and a largely temperate winter. Snowfall in states like Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh has a direct impact in other northern states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Car rally thrills visually impaired in Bhopal

Bhopal/ Kolkata, Jan 11 (ANI): A non-profit organization organized a Blind challenge car rally for visually impaired in Madhya Pradesh to create awareness among people on Sunday. During the rally, the vehicle was driven by a person with vision but the directions were being given by the blind, who through navigator in Braille language guided them about the route and speed. The drivers had to drive on a 30-kilometre route and the directions were told by the blind. The rally saw participation of 55 cars. A visually impaired boy, Ashish Gupta, said he was quite thrilled about the concept. The challenge was not to speed or take over other cars; however, drivers were penalized for driving very slow. Participants were given certificates and first three navigators were presented with cash award and trophies. The rally was flagged off by Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur. Meanwhile, a vintage car rally was organized in Kolkata where around 182 cars were put on display.

Distraught man causes partial evacuation at hospital in Texas, claims police

United States, Jan 11 (ANI): According to the reports, a man distraught about his son's condition at a hospital in the Houston suburb of Tomball caused a commotion that led to an evacuation of part of the facility, in what was initially believed to be a hostage situation. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said in a statement it did not know whether the man, who was with his son in the critical care unit at Tomball Regional Medical Center, was armed. The evacuation involved areas around the room where the father and son are located. The Sheriff's Office initially reported the man had taken two hostages, but later clarified and said that no hostages were being held. The Sheriff's Office later tweeted that the man is the distraught father of a patient.

Janata Parivar against Central govt's 'Ordinance Raaj', says Nitish

Patna, Jan 11 (ANI): The Janata Parivar which includes small parties like Samajwadi Party, RJD, JD (U), RLD among others is holding meetings frequently to make its hold strong in states like Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
