Encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh leaves one policeman dead

Raipur, Jan 11(ANI): An encounter between security personnel and Maoists in Chhattisgarh left one policeman dead and four others injured. The incident happened in Narayanpur district of the state when joint team of police and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) were out on an operation after receiving information about the movement of Maoists in the area. The police are yet to investigate which Maoist group was behind the attack.

CLP Holdings plans to invest $2 billion for coal power plant in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Jan 12 (ANI): Hong Kong-based China Light & Power (CLP) Holdings Limited said that it is planning a 2,000 megawatt coal-based power plant at a projected investment of $2 billion in Gujarat. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CLP Holdings, Richard Lancaster, said this while addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of Global CEO Conclave, being held as part of the seventh edition of Vibrant Gujarat business summit. The Hong Kong based company is keen on developing renewable energy, especially in the form of solar and wind farms in India.

Israel to set up 10 centres of excellence in India to help farmers

Gandhinagar, Jan 12 (ANI): Israel Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir said that Israel will set up ten centres of excellence in India to help farmers improve their output with better technology. Shamir signed the agreement just before his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shamir added Israel could help India a lot. Vibrant Gujarat, held every two years, has yielded billions of dollars in investment promises but only a fraction of the deals announced have come to fruition. Modi aims to lift stagnant capital investment that has held back India's growth to 5.3 percent.

Delhi University students on a tour to explore northeast region

Guwahati, Jan 12 (ANI): The Dharohar-Gyanodaya Express train, carrying 870 students and teachers of Delhi University set off on an educational tour to the Northeast on December 18 in an endeavor to expose the students to the rich culture and heritage of the region. The train was flagged off from Safdarjung Railway station by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister of state for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal. Started in 2012 as the ‘College-on-Wheels' project, this is the fifth edition of the Gyanodaya Express that will cover all the 8 northeastern states and conclude on December 29. The train first arrived in Guwahati from where the students, divided into 9 groups, were taken to various parts of the Northeast. During the 7-day long trip, the students did a variety of sightseeing activities, interacted with the locals and worked on a specific project related to the Northeast.

Arun Jaitley adopts village under 'Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana' in Gujarat

Vadodara, Jan 11 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley adopted a village in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat on Sunday as part of 'Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana'. The 'adopt-a-village' scheme aims to provide rural India with access to basic amenities and opportunities. World Bank, he further said, has a vision for implementing projects for sustainable and exclusive economic growth in the 21st century, which will only be possible when India, follows a path of rapid growth that benefits all Indians. World Bank, said the chief, would help India accelerate its economic growth.
