Reactions come in as 17-year-old raped and burnt to death in Ludhiana

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): Reactions come in as a 17 year old girl succumbed to death after she was raped and later burnt by her alleged rapists in Ludhiana city of Punjab. The Prem Nagar locality in Dhandari remained tense as people gathered outside the victim's house and protested against the police. Six persons had allegedly entered the victim's house and set her ablaze. Congress leader Manish Tewari condemned the incident and said that the culprits should be brought to justice immediately. Meanwhile, social activists Barkha Shukla and Jagmati Sangwan condemned the series of such incidents taking place in different parts of the country and demanded implementation of laws properly. AIDWA General Secretary Jagmati Sangwan said that northeast people are becoming the target of such incidents recently and it is shameful for the nation. Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Ninong Ering also said that Karnataka government should take cognizance of the same and try to avoid such incidents. New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday further extended the stay on the execution of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, lone death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. The court issued notices to STF Maharashtra and CBI on Memon's plea seeking review of death penalty in the blasts case. The court had on March 21, 2013, upheld the death sentence of Memon. At least 257 people were killed in 13 blasts at several Mumbai landmarks, including the Bombay Stock Exchange, a popular cinema and two crowded markets. Dec 10, 2014

Tirupati, Dec 10 (ANI): Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the wee hours on Wednesday offered prayers at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple with his family in the revered Hindu temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh amid tight security. Rajapaksa was in the temple for about an hour, participating in the ‘Suprabhatam' recitation ritual conducted by a group of priests inside the temple. Police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident, as some of the political parties in neighbouring Tamil Nadu state are hostile to the leader due to ethnic Tamil issues in the island nation. Reportedly, Rajapaksa is visiting the temple on the advice of his astrologers which would help him win the Presidential poll in Sri Lanka scheduled for January 08, 2015.
