PM Modi condemns Paris attacks

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condemned the attacks in Paris, also extending his condolences to the people of France. The Prime Minister took to twitter to express his views on the matter. "Condemnable and despicable attack in Paris . Our solidarity with people of France. My thoughts are with families of those who lost their lives," he wrote. Earlier in the day, gunmen entered the offices of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and opened fire. According to reports, 12 people, including two police officers were killed in the attack, with five others seriously wounded. Charlie Hebdo has reportedly been facing threats after it published a series of cartoon depicting Prophet Muhammad. Jan 7, 2015

Paris attack: We are threatened because we are free, says Hollande

Paris, Jan 07 (ANI): French President Francois Hollande said on Wednesday that a shooting at the Paris offices of a weekly satirical magazine was a "terrorist attack". He added that France is in shock, in front of a terrorist attack and that the authorities were seeking those responsible. He further stated that France is being threatened because France is a free country. At least 12 people were killed and 10 wounded after masked gunmen stormed the offices of a French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris. Police and emergency personnel rushed to the scene to take victims to medical attention. Reportedly, a cartoon mocking ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was tweeted by the French magazine Charlie Hebdo just an hour before the gunmen bursted into their offices. Jan 7, 2015

Women police squads deployed in Srinagar to check crimes against women

Srinagar, Jan 08 (ANI): Police in Jammu and Kashmir have begun deploying women police squads at sensitive and crowded areas in Srinagar to check increasing crimes against women. The move comes in the wake of recent acid attack on a 21-year-old law student by three car-borne assailants outside her college in Srinagar's Nowshera locality in December. Devotees throng ghost fair to be exorcised of evil spirits

Betul, Jan 08 (ANI): Thousands of devotees thronged a village in Madhya Pradesh for annual ghost fair. People from various states flocked Malajpur village, 300 kilometres from Bhopal city, to free themselves from evil spirits. The month-long fair begins on the tenth month according to the Hindu calendar. People, apparently, possessed by evil spirits are taken to Guru Deoji Maharaj temple where the priests and sorcerers perform various rituals. During the fair, devotees who are believed to be possessed by evil spirits dance in a state of trance.
