Centre tells HC AAP 'clean' on foreign funding, Politicos react

New Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Thursday after the Central Government informed Delhi High Court that nothing has been found against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in its probe regarding allegations that it had received offshore funds in violation of FCRA provisions. However, the court had directed the government to file a fresh status report in a sealed cover regarding its findings in the matter. Delhi Deputy CM and AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that AAP has been claiming that it is clear in its fundings from a long time. Leaders from other political parties gave mixed reactions.

Teesta Setalvad's bail plea to be heard in SC, reactions flow

New Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): Social Activist Teesta Setalvad's anticipatory bail plea, seeking protection from arrest in connection with a case of alleged financial fraud, will be heard by a new bench in Supreme Court on Thursday. Reacting to this, politicos said that activists who fight for correct should be provided with security cover. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that it is a judicial process and Court will give its verdict. CPI leader Atul Anjan said that Setalvad should be provided with proper security cover. JD (U) leader KC Tyagi said that she has become a bone of contention for the government of Gujarat. Meanwhile, senior lawyer KTS Tulsi said that Setalvad is exposing the fake encounters, which is posing danger to the governments and that is why she is being hounded.

Students in Chennai build solar powered e-scooter

Chennai, Feb 19 (ANI): Students of an engineering college in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu made a solar-powered e-scooter, an eco-friendly step to save non-renewable sources of energy. The solar powered scooter runs on a primary and an auxiliary set of batteries and takes six to seven hours to charge fully. It can travel at a speed of 50 to 55 kilometres per hour and gives a mileage of 45 to 55 kilometres, once charged. The students said the team created this scooter as solar power was the future. India has committed to a huge expansion in renewable energy and improving the energy efficiency of its rapidly growing economy.

Bangladesh court awards death sentence to senior Islamist leader for 1971 war crimes

Dhaka, Feb 19 (ANI): Senior Islamist leader of Bangladeshs Jamaat-e-Islami Abdus Subhan was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal court in Dhaka for crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence with Pakistan. Subhan was the chief of Jamaats Pabna unit and was in charge of the party's highest policymaking body during the post-Liberation War in 1971. He has been charged with nine crimes against humanity, including murder, genocide, abductions, detention, torture and loot. Subhan was arrested at the toll plaza of the Bangabandhu Bridge in capital Dhaka on Sep 20, 2012. He was later shown arrested in the war crimes case and was sent to jail. An investigation into his war crimes began on April 15, 2012.

Hospitals equipped to deal with swine flu rush, says Health Minister

Militancy spares no religion, says Christian leader Ignatius Aphrem-II

New Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, Ignatius Aphrem-II urged nations to unite against militancy saying that its victims were not members of a particular religion. Speaking with mediapersons in New Delhi, Ignatius Aphrem-II expressed his concerns over brutal killings by the militants of Islamic State and repeated attacks on churches in India’s national capital. The insurgent group has expanded its reach around the Arab world. The group, on February 15 released a video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians. Ignatius Aphrem-II, who is on an 11-day visit to India, arrived in Kerala on February 7. During his visit he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and discussed the series of attacks on churches. Churches in the capital have reported incidents of arson, vandalism and burglary for some time now.
